January's Full Wolf Moon
Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter January, wolf packs howled hungrily outside northeast, Native American Indian villages giving rise to their name for January's, Moon, “Full Wolf”.
Medieval English, hearing the same winter howls used “Wolf Moon” which over time evolved into “Old Moon,” or “Moon After Yule.” The Dakota Sioux termed it “The Moon of the Terrible” due to their harsh winter, weather conditions.
The Dakota Siuox called the January Full Moon "The Moon of the Terrible" due to their region's harsh winter weather.
