Good Manners in the Great Outdoors
Summer is the time to hike, bike, walk, fish, camp, and more! Here are some good manners we all should follow and share with our children:
- Make sure to take everything you bring into the wilderness out of the wilderness.
- Use biodegradable soap when camping. Don’t wash yourself, your clothes, or your dishes in a lake or stream. Use a dishpan of water, and discard the water away from natural water sources.
- When camping, remember you are a guest. Don’t disturb the wildlife, especially nesting birds and young animals.
- Secure your food and garbage from animals, and never feed wildlife. Feeding wild animals disrupts their natural feeding habits.
- Use only existing campsites and trails. Never cut new trails or pull up vegetation to make an existing site bigger.
- Teach your family, friends, and children to respect the world in which we live. If we respect something, we are less likely to harm it.
