Full Cold Moon

Another year and another 12 Full Moons. We cap 2008 off with the Full Cold Moon which arrives at 11:37am (Eastern) on December 12th. For some of us, we might call it the Full Numbingly Cold Moon. It was a weird week in Maine. On Tuesday we had wind-chills of -20 degrees (F). Wednesday it peaks at 57 degrees (F) and today is ice and snow.

Lots of places have had unusual weather as we get closer to the official start of winter. Wisconsin got major snow earlier this week and I have reports of snow as far south as Houston, Tx. (first snow in 4 years) shutting everything down. So, the name we associate with the December Full Moon seems most appropriate this year.

If you would like to see what is in store for Full Moons during 2009 – 13 Moons. Go to our link http://www.farmersalmanac.com/full-moon-dates-and-times . Take a look at December when we’ll have a Blue Moon.

You are correct on the snow falling in Houston Texas on December 10, 2008. I live 50 miles north of Houston and we recieved approximately 2 inches that seemed to accumulate on the cars and grass but was all gone by noon on the 11th

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
