Winter As It Should Be

Winter arrived at 7:04am (Eastern) on December 21st. So, we are now on the other side of the “dark nights”. Before long, it will be noticeably brighter as you leave work. Anyone who watched professional football on Sunday notice that winter had indeed arrived. In Boston and Seattle, the snow was a factor in both games making for treacherous play. In other cities the temps were sub zero. The most comfortable seat was in your living room.

Our call for a cold winter (numbingly cold) and lots of snow seem to be on target. Here is a comment from Texas:

I live in Texas and I have heard of the persimmon predictions and have not cut into one this year yet but back in the later part of October we were feeding our cattle and noticed that the calves and some of the cows were already getting a very thick coat on them and we decided that this was a sign of a bad winter for Texas and so far it has held true because we have already had a lot of days under freezing and that is very abnormal for Texas. We usually do not get very many before January and here it is Dec. 22nd and we have already had 6 days in the 20’s. So, maybe this is a sign that we will have a colder winter than normal.

A good section of the US has snow cover and the holidays are looking, well, like they should. I will be on vacation for the next few days.

Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah!

May the week ahead be filled with family, friends, joy, and peaceful good times! Best wishes to all from your friends at the Farmers’ Almanac.
