The Coming of Spring

Little by little, Spring is heading our way. For the northern Midwest and West, there have been some blips along the way with late season snows but today is the Full Pink Moon. It actually arrived at 10:56am. This name was chosen because the grass pink or wild ground phlox are among the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. And, their color is reflected in the naming of the moon. There are other names associated with April. If you haven’t had a chance, go to our home page and click on the Full Moon video in the upper right corner. www.farmersalmanac.com.

My postings of the 10 Best and 10 Worst weather cities has generated some ongoing conversation. Most of us live in one or two locations. It is always nice to hear from a “professional mover” as I did from Heather. This is her perspective….
..”I have lived all over the US. I grew-up in and around Wichita KS. Depending on what you are looking for Wichita has every season, but less snow. Until this year when it snowed in April. The coldest place I lived was Augusta Maine, the best weather is in the Bay Area (CA). San Diego has wonderful weather as well, but CA folks are eccentric  ….. My 2 favorite places, and not because of the weather, are Boston &  Chicago. What the guy said about San Francisco, is almost true, but if you visit make sure to come during the warmest time of year which is in the months of September and October.

The story behind the story is that Heather lived in Maine at one point until is snowed on her May birthday, then she moved on. Ha! In terms of great year round weather San Diego is a gem. Always enjoy input from others because this is such a personal thing. I held a convention, a number of years ago, in San Diego. My room was on the top floor of the hotel and all of a sudden things started shaking. Having never been in an earthquake, I was confused at first and then grateful that it was not close and all we got was the jitters. Not sure any place is out of the reach of Mother Nature.

Do you have a favorite weather city? If so, what makes it special?

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
