Flag Flying Trivia

What are you doing Monday? Why not show your patriotism and fly a flag! This Monday June 14, 2010 is flag day, a day when everyone is encouraged to fly a flag outside their homes and businesses.
In honor of Flag Day here are a few more interesting pieces of trivia about our great Red, White, and Blue:
- When is it appropriate to fly the flag upside down? When you’re in an emergency situation. An upside down flag means “help;” “call the police” “it’s an emergency.”
- Did you know that Francis Scott Key wrote the words to “The Star-Spangled Banner” on the back on an envelope? Ever wonder what the source for music was for it? An old English drinking song called “To Anacreon in Heaven.”
- A vexillologist is an expert in the history of flags.
