We’ve all heard of the winter blues, especially if we live in northern areas of the country, but today I’m thinking that boring weather can give you the blues too. Today is a grey winter day here in NJ. The temperature is mild but there’s a damp feeling in the air so it’s not very inviting and rather very boring.
In Maine it’s cold with lots of snow on the ground and some light snow falling. (Very picturesque).
In Savannah, Georgia, it’s sunny, and warm (68 degrees). (Hmm might be tempted to bring the laptop outside and work out there.)
While I shouldn’t wish “exciting” weather on anyone, (in fear of some extreme storm that could cause slippery roads or power outages), I find the idea of either a warm, sunny 68 degree day, or a cold but white winter day is much more enticing than a grey ho-hum weather day like we’re having today.
Many people say that the winter blues have a lot to do with light deprivation. To me, I find the idea of “boring” winter weather much more depressing. I must admit this past weekend when the weather was sunny and warm for January (high 40s) there was a tease in the air, a taste of spring, an excitement that beckoned me to go outside and enjoy the winter warm up. Today is a different story.
Some may argue that weeks on end of sunny, 68+ degrees could be boring, or that snowstorm after snowstorm also gets old (especially if you have to shovel) but right now I’m wishing for some snow … or maybe a 70-degree day … but it is January.
