Soft serve or hard? I prefer soft serve ice cream especially in the summer months, but my real favorite is ice cream sandwiches. When I was young, we sometimes were allowed to have waffles and ice cream for dinner! Yum.
With the first weekend of summer here, I wonder how many of you may be indulging in this sweet frozen dessert, and what your favorite flavor is? Do you prefer soft or hard ice cream? Or maybe an old fashioned ice cream soda… or sundae (am I making you hungry yet?).
Here’s an interesting story about the history of ice cream in the US as well as a recipe on how to make your own homemade cones.
Happy first weekend of summer.

Sandi Duncan is the Managing Editor of the Farmers' Almanac.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.

Does anyone have a recipe for frozen yogurt? I would love to make my own but want something that tastes like vanilla ice cream and not yogurt.
If someone could email me the recipe it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Bob
Yes you are making me hungry. I remember when I was little I would ask for ice cream and my mom would say “no sweetie you already had enough candy for today” no was my least favorite word as a kid. I love strawberry ice cream and we pick strawberries from the patch in May and June every year and make all kind of stuff with them. Summer, Summer, Summer. Gotta love it! Next season it wont be ice cream season anymore, it will be hot chocolate season!!
