Maine lobsters are the best in the world. They thrive in our cold Atlantic Ocean with its clean water and rocky bottom habitat. Lobsters are harvested year-round but the peak season runs from July through December. Once considered a scrum fish eaten by poor folks, it is now a delicacy shipped worldwide. Right now Maine lobsters are in a crisis situation of having of too many. Quite literally, the cup runnith over. Television ads are running in Maine to encourage people to eat more lobster. There are lobster eating contests along with a major push to get our locals and tourists to eat them every day.
If you go to a local store you can purchase a lobster for usually less than $4.50 per pound. If you visit Maine, by all means, help yourself. If you aren’t coming this way, go online and have them shipped overnight. They will still be good and ready for your dinner table. One of my favorites sources for lobster is Linda Bean’s, but there are many dealers who ship fresh product.
Enjoy them while they last.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.

If you buy more directly than the grocery store then prices are even lower, I’ve seen as low as $2.99 lb in the Portland area. These are soft shelled lobster so they don’t ship well alive, if you are ordering live lobster then they are hard-shelled and much more expensive. There’s actually a significant taste difference, soft shelled lobsters have recently molted their shells and have less meat but taste sweeter than they do after their shells harden fully.
