We had some temps in the twenties the last 3 days, here in Pace, Florida, and it took out the tops of the potatoes that had come up ( they'll come back though because I had snow on 'em back in the 90's and they did allright) - at the same time the onions, carrots, broccoli and cabbage are doing just fine, and in a few weeks I'll plant corn, beans, squash, etc. Have peach, aplle, and plums trees in bloom, also. Really getting into gardening now that I'm semi-retired.

We are on a mountain between Johnstown and Altoona,PA, in a snow belt, so we expect a long winter. This year we were not disappointed, sorry Phil!. I must say, though, I would rather get it over with and then spring into SPRING, rather than have early warm temps followed by killer frosts that wipe out early frosts that wipe out early buds and blooms. No snow and cold in April....my ruling!

Last Saturday the high in Daytona Beach, FL was only at 47 F.. combined with gusty winds, which kept wind chills placed in the upper 30s!! Nope this wasent at night, during the heat of the day. Heading north into central Virginia, I know old man winter all too well. The harsh winters of the 70s, blizzard of March 1993, 29 inches of snow in January 1996 (my son was born the night it was snowing) APRIL ICE STORM, Blizzard of 2003, March 2009 we had more than a foot of snow, 2010 we had 4 huge snowstorms that put us at 50" of snow for the year. Now we're expecting 4-8" of snow tonight into Wednesday. Where I am, our normal snowfall sits at 18" so we get our fair share of white.
I was actually in Maine last summer and was told to bring a jacket but did I need it? No, It was 90 degrees & we went swimming. Did you know I actually layed out in the sun... in Maine? I think I might have gotten sun burnt too. We learn something new about every states weather every year!
