Tomato Meat Sauce

Tomato Meat Sauce

Ingredients

32 fl oz of Hunts tomato sauce

8 fl oz of Hunts tomato paste

1 ½ lb ground beef

1 large clove of garlic, finely chopped

1 medium onion, finely chopped

3 tbsp olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Pinch of sugar

3 tbsp milk

Bunch of fresh basil, chopped

Bunch of fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

1. In a large sauce pan, sauté the onion in olive oil over medium to high heat. When the onion softens, add the garlic. As the garlic starts to sizzle, add the chopped meat. Start breaking up the meat so that you get a homogeneous mixture. As the meat is cooking, add the milk. Salt and pepper the meat to taste. As indicated, this is done over fairly high heat so stir continually.

2. Add tomato sauce and paste to this mixture. Stir well.

3. Add basil and parsley. Add pinch of sugar. Continue to stir.

4. When the mixture comes to a boil, lower heat and simmer. Keep the lid askew.

5. Add salt and pepper to taste.

6. Simmer for 1 and ½ hours stirring every 15 to 20 minutes, or so, making sure no sauce sticks to the bottom of the pan.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
