Ingredients
1 1/2 cups flour
3 tablespoons melted shortening
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon grated orange rind
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup milk
Directions
Sift dry ingredients together. Combine shortening, rind, egg and milk and add to the dry ingredients, mixing well. Turn into paper cup lined muffin pans.
COMBINE:
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons butter or margarine
1 1/2 teaspoons flour
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Sprinkle on surface of batter. Bake at 375 F. for about 20 minutes.







If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
