1/2 cup butter shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon milk
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Frosting
1/2 stick butter shortening sticks
1 pound powdered sugar, about 4 cups
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
Heat oven to 375°F. Grease baking sheets.Combine 1⁄2 cup shortening, sugar and milk; beat at medium speed until well blended. Beat in egg and vanilla extract. Combine flour, salt and baking powder. Mix into shortening mixture. Drop level measuring tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto prepared baking sheets. Bake 7 to 9 minutes. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheets; transfer to cooling racks to cool completely.FrostingCombine shortening, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract; beat at low speed for 15 seconds. Scrape bowl.Beat at high speed for 2 minutes, or until smooth and creamy. Frost cookies.
