Hobo Dinner

Ingredients:
1/4 lb. ground beef
1 potato, diced
1 carrot, chopped
1/4 onion, diced
Ketchup or barbecue sauce
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Start with a 12” square of aluminum foil. Separate the ground beef into bits and place it evenly on the foil. Add the potato, carrot, and onion. Season with salt and pepper and add ketchup or barbecue sauce to taste. Fold the foil into a flat package, making sure to seal it well along the seams. Using fire tongs, place the packet directly on the campfire coals. Cook for 10 minutes, flip, and cook for 10 more minutes. Remove and enjoy.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
