Ingredients:
6 cups plums, pitted and chopped
1 small cucumber, peeled and chopped
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
1 1/2 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, peeled and grated
1/2 large jalapeno pepper, minced
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
Directions:
In a large bowl, stir together plums, cucumber, cilantro, lime juice, sugar, garlic, ginger, jalapeno, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Add more lime juice and/or sugar if needed. Refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.

Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
