Howdy Gradin. Ahhh…you want to make fried pies. That is a southern treat for sure. Here's a basic recipe. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/F…..etail.aspx I use this recipe site all the time. You can change the number of servings to whatever you want and it will change the ingredient list to reflect the amounts for that number of servings. Enjoy
.

Ah yes they certainly know how to make fried pies in GA. I ment to tell you drain um well and if the dough doesn't require sugar add some anyway. That will make um better. Now you have my husband and I wanting some so we will probably end up frying some pies this weekend.
Funny. I use to religiously use cooks.com. Your right a lot of the time their directions aren't right. Now I switch between allrecipes and cooks. Glad you liked the site and it you every want a southern recipe, or any other type, don't hesitate to ask me.

So glad to know they were awesome. We will be making some soon ourselves. What filling did you use?
It is always nice to have recipes that remind us of our younger days and especially when they were something grandmothers made us. Grandmothers can be fantastic cooks. Our food is a part of our history.
Heck Grandin I am happy to help anytime.
Wll i went to the store and bought strawberrys and blue berrys and apples. and cut em all up and cooked em on simmer for 45 mins with brown sugar and a splash of milk. it was the best thing since grams brought back alot of good memorys about grams. and do u have a good meatloaf/homemade brown gravy recipe? and awsome im glad u are here to help me =)
Hi Grandin. Meatloaf is a real versatile meal. I always use ketchup but I know some people don't like it. Same goes for onions. If your family doesn't like onions you can leave them out. I don't usually have it with brown gravy but that sounds good. I found a brown gravy recipe you can try. Again leave out the onion and mushrooms if your family can't stand them.
Mince about a 1/4 cup of onion and set aside. (sometimes I also use a little chopped green pepper) Put 3/4 c of torn up bread in your bowl and add a splash of milk to make it a little soft. Add the minced onion and mix that up. Add 1 lb of ground chuck, two splashes of worcestershire sauce and a squirt or two of ketchup and 1 egg and salt to your taste - mix that up really well. Put the meatloaf in a baking dish (or you can use a roasting pan with a rack so it won't be sitting in the grease) bake at 350 for about an hour. Once done remove from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
Ingredients For the Gravy:
While the meatloaf is resting, prepare the gravy. In a medium saucepan, melt butter or margarine over medium heat. Add mushrooms and onions; cook and stir until tender. Add beef broth; simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Combine water and cornstarch in a small cup; stir into broth. Cook and stir for 1 minute, or until thickened.
I hope that this is what your looking for.
Usually ham or lamb are traditional meats for easter. I think your idea of ham and potatoes is a good one.
You could even have a sweet potato casserole. You could baked the sweet potatoes and then skin them and whip them up with some butter, a little honey or brown sugar, and cinnamon. Take a little taste to be sure it has the level of sweetness you guys like and do be careful with the cinnamon. You could serve them like that, or you could also add a little milk or cream and an egg. Beat all that up really good and pop it in the oven at 350 for about 25 minutes. You could boil them instead of baking, but for some reason, I think sweet potatoes retain their flavor better when they're baked.
You could also have asparagus, which is coming into season right now, and sautee it with some dill or even thinly sliced onions and garlic. You could do the same with broccoli or green beans. What every your crowd likes. And of course rolls! LOL
How does that sound?
Oh…I imagine you can find these up there. If you don't already know about this, you can find frozen rolls that are not pre-baked. They just look like little balls of frozen dough in a bag. You can set them out to rise and bake them and they taste like homemade rolls like my grandma use to make. They are really good.
that sounds really good u gave me tons of ideas =) and ya i agree ham and lamb are more easter i think. But he can bake what he wants just found it odd he is doing a prime rib. and thanx for the comp. it means alot to me. i love to cok and bake. me and the wife take turns doing dinner and brunch alot. and i allways do the sunday breakfast it's a good thing. And asparagus, green beans, peas are my fav. veggys heck ya i love em. Haven't doen the meatloaf/gravy spread yet but when i do ill write again and let u no how everything was.. Happy easter to you and yours MsSouthernGirl =)
Thats good that the two of you share cooking. My husband and I do too. Its fun and when a meal turns out really good and everyone is full and happy afterwards you have a great feeling of accomplishment. We're having ham for easter too, with sweet potatoes and asparagus with hollendaise sauce. Hope you guys have a happy easter too!
Me and my wife feel the same way you and your hubby do as well on making meals. and we tried that meatlaof and gravy dinner u passed along. omg so good!! love it to death we might have it again sometime in the meer future. And your easter spread kinda sounds like what were having! Happy easter/april fools day MSSouthernGirl
Happy Easter to you and your family Grandin.
I am so glad that you guys liked the meatloaf. Next time I make it I am going to try it your way with the brown gravy. Haven't had meatloaf in a while. Maybe we will have that next week. Lately we have been getting tired of eating the same ol thing all the time. We run our own business, like you, and we are so busy during the day that I don't really have a lot of time to plan. If you have any favorite meal ideas you would be willing to share I would love to hear them.
Hope you have a delicious Easter meal.
LOL maybe we should start another thread. This one has morphed out of the pastry area.
