Just wanted to pass this on… if you have a problem with ants taking over your garden, just take a note of the surrounding greenery- Peonies attract ants like no tomorrow… if you dont want the ants getting to your other bushes or flowers, veggies, etc… you may want to isolate any peony bushes from the rest of your plants… BUT DONT TRY TO KILL THE ANTS ON PEONIES!!! THE BUDS NEED THEM!!!

Heres why: The bushes' buds produce a protective wax coat,  the ants feed on the wax coating, and in turn, the peony blooms— pretty cool, huh?
