Here we are at the end of April and we have already pulled 10 to 12 ticks off our kids. They generally stay in the fields but do go in the woods occasionally.
Did the mild winter that New Hampshire just had set us up for a big tick year?

Yes. Ticks love mild, wet conditions. The two types of weather that they dislike are hot, dry weather and very cold, dry weather.
Given the mild winter of 2010, cool wet summer of 2009, and cool wet summer of 2008 that we had, ticks are absolutely awful. I've already found a wood tick on myself this year, and our dog has been loaded. Thankfully they are mostly wood ticks and not deer ticks, but they're still annoying.
I recommend Off Deep Woods as a repellent if your kids are old enough (as it has a lot of deet) and if they're young get the Off kids brand. It repels ticks and other bugs better than the other brands.
OK, that isn't the news we would like to hear but I guess that's what we get.
My wife is wanting to get Guinea Fowl to deal with them. Guess I have some reading to do.
