Very frosty this morning, but warm this weekend

After some March-like weather yesterday, the sky cleared much earlier than expected last night and allowed the temperature to drop well below freezing. Some puddles are still frozen solid outside, and the more frost-sensitive plants that came up early this year seem a little stressed out.

In spite of this sub-freezing low, temperatures will surge into the 70s this weekend with lows in the upper 40s. Might be a good time for me to plant my spinach and maybe peas. These plants can tolerate light frosts, and I think last night was the coldest night we'll have until at least October, maybe November… although tonight's forecast is 33 with clear skies.

The trees continue to turn green. Many of them are already half-way there, and could have full-size leaves within the next week!

Might have to dig out the lawn mower this weekend too… usually I don't mow until mid-late May but my lawn is becoming a jungle, and with all the rain we got over the last two days I'm sure it's going to grow even more! :D

I ran the mower around our yard this past Saturday.  The yard looked just ratty enough that it needed it.

The frost was very heavy around our area as well.  It looked quiet pretty but melted off quickly once the sun hit it.

Did you see that Mount Washington added just over 22 inches of snow yesterday?  Crawford Notch was over 17 inches and Franconia Notch was over 14 inches.  I wonder if any of it will still be there when we go through the notches on Saturday on our way to Maine?

Fast forward your forecast about one day ahead in order to get mine.  Sunday looks like the warmest day at 78, with a low around 50. Nice summer weather, but maybe a little too warm this time of year for me.

The storms this morning came though with heavy rain and a thunderbolt a few feet away, just outside. (I was…startled…you could say :) I'm glad temperatures are not falling into 50's behind fronts anymore, no it's just 60's and 70's all week, maybe getting near 80 again later on! Can't wait!
