Dragonflies and butterflies….

Posted By: ranetc  Posted On: Aug 29th, 2010  Filed Under: Weather

I live in NE Wisconsin and last year a dragonfly or butterfly was hard to find anywhere and this year it seems to be an explosion of livelyhood from them.  Do they migrate to different areas?  Or does the weather seem to have an effect on where they go?  I think it is awesome of how many butterflies (especially monarchs) and dragonflies are here this year.  It is nice to see.  I just wish the crickets were less talkative.  It seems they don't stop.  Another question for anyone who would know, is there a difference in the chirps of a cricket and grasshopper.  We seem to have the individual chirps and then it sounds like a constant chirp almost like someone shaking a rattle.  I am just curious.  Thank you for any responses.  Have a wonderful day!

Cool

im not so sure if the weather has an effect on where crickets go. they have been pretty talkative and loud in my area as well. theyll be out at four in the afternoon, talking up a storm. dragonfly numbers seem average around here.

I wondered the same thing about butterflies… I live in East Tennessee and I don't ever remember seeing so many.  I've looked online to see if there is any correlation with last Winter's cold but could not find a connection.  I do know they are beautiful to look at, though.
