My bicycles. All 11 of them.

Hey forum, what's up? Most of y'all know me from the “Weather” half of the forums. I usually don't venture out of that realm honestly, but I feel that I should make one of my favorite hobbies known. A gentleman named “Grandin” had made a comment about one of my bikes. Feeling oh so flattered, I desided to show off what little bit of a collection I have. A buddy of mine has a mind blowing collection of muscle bikes..and bikes in general, which my bikes don't hold a candle too. But, here they are…

Here we have my 2004 or so Haro V-1 mountain bike. This is my EVERYTHING bike. I upgraded the wheels to Specialized Hardrock rims, and Avid Juicy BB-7 model disk brakes. Its a BEAST. Fast as crap in my opinion.

This is my 2001 or so Mongoose Styleist-Pro. I got it from my uncle, who didn't want it anymore. This is the only true stunt bike I have. It feels like a tank when you ride it becuase its so heavy Tongue out. Only upgrades to it at the rear brake lines, stem, handle bars (from an old Schwinn Predator), and handle bar grips.

This is my seemingly rare Turantula BMX bike. I have never seen another one like it. I got it becuase its a 24 inch. My aunt paid 5 bucks for it at a yard sale. Only upgrade to it is the seat post, from a Mongoose Gravity Games bike.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h9/rick_AFC/IMG_20100829_204259.jpg

Here is my 1987 Skyway 280-TA. Its modified just a little bit. The 280-TA model was said to only be in production for about 2 or three years. I seen the frame, handlebars, fork, and some Skyway pads go for 300 bucks on eBay a while back. Good times.

This one is my Huffy West Coast Chopper bicycle. It doesn't really suit the collection, BUT I got it because it was odd. Found it on Craigslist for 45 bucks. It rides like a DREAM.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h9/rick_AFC/2010-05-12015544.jpg

This one is my Schwinn Stingray chopper. Y'all probably remember seeing these at Wal-Mart for like..200 bucks. I only paid 60 for it, and there isn't a single thing wrong with it.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h9/rick_AFC/2010-05-04183219.jpg

This one is a TRUE classic. The 1968 Schwinn Stingray Fastback. Needs a tube for the rear tire though CrySorry for the blurriness.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h9/rick_AFC/Stingray.jpg

This one is a rather modified Huffy PorkChopper bike. The only thing that is stock on this thing is the seatpost and forks!

This is my good ole' 1968 Columbia Playboy. This thing is very stout, and cruises easy.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h9/rick_AFC/25419_377877047414_553267414_3874535_3031406_n.jpg

This is my Bratz bike. Wal-Mart sold these bikes for 100 bucks back in 2005 I think. This bike was bought by my grandpa shortly befor he died. I told him I wanted the bike…but I only had 60 bucks. He asked me how much I needed to get it. I told him about 40 bucks. He then grabbed his wallet, handing me 40 bucks cash. He then told me “Go get that bike, and bring it home. I want to see it.” If it wasn't for my grandpa, I wouldn't know some of the stuff about bikes that I know today. This bike stays inside in the guest bedroom 24/7. I RARELY take it outside. This bike is his memorial, from me. May you rest in peace paw-paw. I love you.

Last but not least, this is my 1953 Columbia cruiser. Its a blast to ride. A bit odd as well…but still fun to roll out, and be seen on.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h9/rick_AFC/IMG_20100823_234310.jpg

And there you have it. My collection of bicycles. I am STILL looking to make it grow, but not untill I have a job. Thanks for lookin. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

  1. The Rickster says:

That's a bad lookin' bike. There looks to be a very small sticker up on the tube you put the fork through. It probably says “Made In Taiwan”. In my opinion, bikes made in Taiwan are made better then ones in made in China. Rims have thick spokes for studiness, a plastic seat to remove weight. The rear brakes are designed for V-style brakes. Same as my Turantula. I always ride with my seats low…I've had one try and go up my rear end…thats not a good feeling. Looks like the bike is from the 90s. MAYBE early 2000s at most. I'de bank on the 90s though. Its gotta one peice crank and threaded headset. If I were you, if there was a upgrade that I'de lable a must have, it would be to replace the 1 peice crank, with a 3 peice. Your son will get more power, and torqe out of the bike. Plus, they seem to be harder to bend as well. The Mongoose that I have that you like has a 3 peice on it.

So you say you dropped about a grand on parts huh? You got money son Surprised

    What parts did you get?

  2. Grandin says:

ill for sure do the 3 piece like u said man so he can get more power, and ya i agree when i use to ride when i was a kid i allways had a low seat. i felt outta place with a high seat. and john likes the low seats too.. u get more speed from a lower seat then a higher i think. and close the kid who sold it to be said it was a 1998 style. but everything wiill be new expect the frame on the bike. im gonna paint the frame a glossy black. Put some 3 inch spokes on it. and now im gonna do a 3 piece crank on there. and i got some really tough some what fat tires better for ridding on trails or jumping ramps. and im gonan torge out the bike like you said and your right they are harder to bend. and it was made in tiwan but im gonna get a sticker that says made i nthe use cuz im basicly strippin it and making it all bran new again Mongoose brand has allways been good to my even huffys. main reason why i bought it. and ya i make a really good living off my business. I spoil john more than i should i hsouldnt spoil him so much but i want john happy plus i promised him a new bike. and what better why then to rebuld one stead of going out and buying one. Gives him and me something ta do like father and son time. yesterday we plugge dout some dings and bends that were in the frame and painted it a glossy black. and today after work were gonna put the stickers on it. than basiclly put it all together with new parts and the chian that came with it. the kid had it duct tape together. that was right there. so i gotta buy a new chain later or tonight. 'Got new pedals too the grip your shoes better so u dont slip if the pedal is wet from rain or snow.'

  3. The Rickster says:

Good choices man. I highly reccomend the 3 peice crank set up. They make  HUGE difference. There isn't anything with a little bit of spoiling in my opinion. He's your son afterall. My grandma spoiled me more then my mom did obviously.

I'm working on a freind of mine's big ole' Mongoose Blackcomb mountain bike. He did something to screw up the cage really bad, so I'm fixing it, and checking the bike over. They don't really have the money to throw around on buying bikes, so I either find a cheap one, or a free one. The original price for the Blackcomb is roughly 300 bucks, but I paid 5 becuase the guy didn't want it. It was laying down beside his back porch, being taken by weeds and grass…so I snatched it. With all the sand around here, you need a mountain bike. There are trails around here, you just gotta make sure hey arnt on private property of course.

And thats cool of you to help your friends out i hope it's something simple and u can fix it right there and than. and nothing wrong with getting cheap bikes or free bikes u got my respect my friend. Id fix em up with what u got and turn around and profit off them. makes some money at least tie things over till a job comes in ya know? sweet im glad he gave u the bike man, and ya moutain bikes are cool i like moutain bikes alot and there good for the rough stuff like sand and rocks and trails..

That they are. My haro is the only mountain bike I got. I bought it used for 200 bucks at a local bike shop, and I haven't looked back since.

I'm glad you got a 3 peice man. Your son will thank you.

Probably not man. I hate riding by myself, but i like to ride so much and be seen with them, so I do go out by myself sometimes. But trust me, I DON'T go very far..I don't wanna get jumped or whatever.

You remember me telling you about my buddy's mountain bike? The Mongoose Blackcomb that I was working on a few nights ago? Well I got a call today, telling me someone stole the freaking thing! He said he had it around back where the loading and unloading of freight is done, sorta hidden behind some carts that are used for moveing the goods around within the store…and it got stolen. Someone had to have been walking..becuase if you were rolling out in a vehical around where he had it hidden, you would have had to have been going at a walking pace to see it becuase of how well he had it hidden. That really made me mad. If you have to steal it, then you don't need it.

But there is an upside…I have an interveiw with Wal-Mart tomorroww (friday, september 10th). I'm stoked. The guy that had his bike stolen said that just about everyone that he knows that works ar Wally World say that they get the job. So YAY! Now I can help my mom out (hopefully).

  10. Grandin says:

Ya ridding by yourself can be risky man. My kid would prolly ride with you u and him would make good friends probs. and if u rode by yourself and i was there no one would touch you. Cause if u came home jumped and bike gone who ever would make that mistake would be sucking there thanksgiving dinner through a straw in the hosptial..

And dude that sucks he got his bike stolen. I say if people wanna go out and steal —- they need to get there butts kicked and told to get a job or least tryto. thats bunk right there man i hope he gets his stuff back.. And it sounds like someone who worked there or watched em several times hidden the bike that stole it..

And dude i hope you get that job at wally world i go there alot with my wife so she can shop for grocerys and i go into the car section on the other side of the store and buy stuff for my car and truck and she just texts me when she is ready. Im tell ya if u dont get this job u all need to move here ill give ya a job with my business i no what it's like to be jobless and broke it friicking sucks. But i got a gut feeling you will get this job man..

Your the same way I am dude, at least, to an extent. When I'm there, I actually check out the bikes and tthe bike accesories…then I head to the car audio section…and then to the CDs thenw e do whatever. My first set of subwoofers cam from Wal-Mart. They were Pioneers. I had two of the TS-W302R subs. I don't have those anymore though. I now have some Planet Audio TQ-12 twelve inch subs, in a sealed box. They do alright. There is a guy down the road that wanted my system. EVERYTHING, except my radioWink.

I appreciate saying that you'd look out for me man, even though you don't know me that well. Thats pretty cool. How old is your son?

And it looks like I have the job man. Im a photography tech of all things. They starting me as part time, which is fine. I've been unemployeed since January..so this will be nice.

Oh yeah man, the job is VERY welcome. But..at the same time, it's not, becuase its not what I want to do. I want to go to school to be a welder. But if I go to school, and work at Wal-Fart, then I won't have anytime at all. But argh. I go for orientation at 8 AM Saturday morning.

I'm glad you consider me as your freind. But once you find out what went down, you might reconsider Wink. I was over at Bike Man's tonight becuase he had invited me over to get a old 10 speed, since he has more crap then he can shake a stick at. I ended up with a old Schwinn Varsity 10 speed. Alotta work…mainly a front rim (which has he NUMORIS fronts). Needs new lines, tires, some cleaning up from the rust and all. You get the idea. Well, he had asked me to take him to the store to grab some drinks. I agreed, so we left. On the back from the store, I had mentioned that I have a job now…so that LongBoy is as good as mine. I looked at him. He looked at me with this smirk on his face. He then admited that something had happened to the chain guard. The words that fallowed, out of my mouth were “Someone's head is gonna roll.”

Well we got back to his house, only to witness him unlocking it the bike (he had it chained up). Once he got it unlocked, he pulled it out into the open and said “Happy Birthday Ricky.”Cool

Yeah buddy, the Longboy is mine, and I'm not out 500 bucks! He said that no one rides it…he doesn't have the room for it…its rusting up…time for it to go to a good home. So, he gave it to me…and he gave me some parts to boot. I'll throw some photos up of it tomorroww right in this thread. I have to be up at 6 tomorroww morning..so yeah. I need to get to bed.

I beleive your son and I could be good freinds. Same goes for you and me as well. My best freind, named Maverick, is either 15 or 16. i want to say he is 15 as well, and is into bikes just like I am.

The system I have is alright. Just enough to rear veiw mirror move a litrle bit Smile. Works for me. I'm not looking to move the earth anyway. Its deep, and clean. That way bass should be.

Nah..I don't wanna move the Earth. I remember working down at Dollar General. There was this one jeep that rolled up. A Jeep Grand Cherokee. The system was so strong that the guy in the back most seat had to get out a few times to catch his breath, becuase the bass wouldn't let him breath. It would be cool knowing that I could do that..but its B.S.. All your asking for is trouble from the neighborhood, and the police. Last time I checked, cousin's system did that. He had 4 twelves in a two separate boxes, strapped to his seats in a Dodge Ram pickup. Everytime the bass hit, it knocked the air out of me. It honestly sucked…but it was neat.

And thanks man. My birthday is September 19th. I thought he was stuck for sure on the price of 500 bucks…but nope. I'm gonna be getting two more bikes (one is for my girlfreind). The bikes are a old Schwinn Univega (I think). Either way, its a little 10 speed from the 70s. And my girl's bike is a Schwinn Breeze cruiser. Thats a nice bike. All it needs is a tube, and he has alotta those dude. And I am a official employee for Wal-Fart. My hours a right up my ally. And easy to memorize. Monday and Tueasday- 11 AM to 8 PM. Wensday-off. Thursday- 11 AM to 8 PM. And Friday…off work. If those hours arn't easy to memorize, then what is? My schedual goes three weeks out, so I know what I work, ahead of time. Its cool.

Shoot id be liken his bass but so strong he had to get out to catch his breathe wow thats some good soild bass right there man. Yeah man. That was was crazy. But, for two 12s in a sealed box, running off of 200 watts each, my system sounds alright. I can make it loud with what I got..but I don't push it to the max becuase I want it to last. I have pushed them VERY hard befor..but it was only for a few minutes becuase Maverick said that he wanted to hear what my system can REALLY do, since I keep the subwoofer volumes in the negatives nearly 100 percent of the time. They kick to Lamb Of God, older Slipknot, Pantera, All That Remains, Coheed And Cambria, Godsmack, and many others.

I don't know if I'll get anything much or not. I know we're doing some sorta party/cookout type deal. Thats all I know at the moment (of course).

I have one of the Schwinns I told you about. I know I said it was a Schwinn “Univega” but its not. Its a Schwinn “Varsity.” I have the bike. Its put together, but not rideable, as it needs a new chain. The bike is huge. I can barely ride it. I have to lean the bike twords me, just to be able to throw my leg over it to the ride it. I don't have the Schwinn Breeze just yet, but I'll be getting it soon. MAYBE Wensday. We'll see. I did some more work to my Longboy too. I put some front brakes on it, a different sissy bar (James wanted the one thats pictured back, as he said it goes to a Schwinn Stingray.), and some different grips, with tassels! I don't like the grips that much..they are a little infomfortible. I'm gonna transfer those tassels to the old grips, or try to anyway. Look for new photos here very soon.

Oh, one more thing. I'm surprised with those 250 veiws that this thread has generated, no one else has jumped into the conversation.
