Vegan cooking recipes and tips?

Posted By: agnesjdavis  Posted On: Oct 5th, 2010  Filed Under: Cooking & Recipes

I've been vegetarian for a little more than a year now and have been thinking about going vegan. I'm young (13) so I might not go vegan anytime soon, but I would definetly like to be more knowledgable than I already am. So, does anybody know good, healthy, somewhat kid friendly (optional) vegan recipes? Also, any tips would be appreciated, more so from experienced vegans. Thanx in advance

veganisim is the strictest form of vegetarisim.  only plant material can be eaten.  if you are going to choose this life style there are a few things you need to know

firstly, we need protien and it is difficult to get proper amounts of protien from a vegan diet.  most vegetable products only contain partial protiens and must be eaten in conjunction with certian other vegetables that have complementary partial protiens.  the most common would be beans and rice.  to be successfull as a healthy vegan you will need to research which vegetables and combinations of vegetables will give you the proper amount of protien that the body needs.  there is one complete protien that is sutable to the vegan diet and thats tofu.

secondly, there are meat products hidden in the most unsuspecting places.  gellitin for example is still made from the rendering of animal bones, sure you can get vegetable gellitin but it is very expensive so you can bet that all the junk and convience items in the store aren’t using the expensive vegetable gellitin but the cheaper animal gellitin.  this is just one example, do some research and you’ll find other places that meat is hidding.

    good luck
