Well even if it isn't too snowy it's at least cold for December standards. My average high is around 32 and my average low around 14, but highs have consistently stayed in the 20s while lows dip into the mid-single digits each night. Thank the northern flow that our last retrograding low ended up establishing. In fact if it wasn't for that 50 degree rain storm we had Monday and Tuesday of last week, the past two weeks would have been a consistently cold weather pattern. Even if this next storm doesn't do much, it looks like the cold pattern stays in place up here at least through Christmas and maybe into early January. The Euro model certainly thinks so.
Overall, December is 1-2 degrees above average so far, mostly because of the freak 50 degree rain storms we've had. I'm hoping if the cold pattern does stay in place we can at least break our streak of overall “warm” months, going back to November 2009.
Also not too discouraged about my lack of snow so far… 2007-2008 I had 4 inches of snow at the end of December. By late April, I had 102 inches because February, March, and April were insane. La Ninas tend to bring late winters up here… hopefully this works out in my favor!
