My calendar says today is the first day of winter, but it was 40 degrees, rainy, and all of my snow melted. Sounds more like the first day of spring to me.
I'm still waiting for the storms that wjp forecast in February 2010.
You know, the ones that bring straight snow and not mix/rain!
At risk of yet ANOTHER brown Christmas.

I'm getting the second green christmas in a row
well here in houston it was 82 degrees
Yesterday our high was 67. It was weird having that “spring feeling” on the first day of winter.
Was just reading NOAA's weather discussion for our area. They are forecasting a white Christmas for us, which is amazing. From the National Weather Service:
“ONE OF THREE SCENARIOS WILL PLAY OUT. ONE IS THE NORTHERN STREAM
WILL COMPLETELY MISS THE SOUTHERN ONE…THE SOUTHERN ENERGY WILL
DIVE TOO FAR SOUTH…AND THE MIDSOUTH WILL BE SPARED OF ANY PRECIP.
ANOTHER IS WHAT THE MODELS ARE CURRENTLY SHOWING…KEEPING THEM
FROM PHASING BUT KEEPING THEM SUFFICIENTLY CLOSE TO STILL PROVIDE
A LIGHT-MODERATE PRECIP EVENT. THE LAST AND MOST UNLIKELY SCENARIO
PHASES THE TWO PIECES OF ENERGY MUCH FASTER AND GIVES US A MORE
SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM. NONE OF THE MODELS HAVE EVER SHOWN THE
THIRD SCENARIO. SINCE THE NAM…CANADIAN…ECMWF…AND 00Z GFS
ARE LEANING TOWARD THE SECOND SCENARIO…THAT IS WHAT I USED FOR
THIS FORECAST PACKAGE.”
Sorry to disappoint you MSSouthernGirl but they are saying it is unlikely for a snow event to happen. You will recieve a chance of rain. I wish myself it would be a white Christmas here. But I will be going to KY, so I might get that chance of snow on Christmas.
Maineman… looks like your getting your white Christmas now according to radar. What's your accumulations up to now??
Ar Country I am afraid you are correct. Yesterday morning's forecast gave me some hope but by last night, of course, it had changed. Hate it when that happens.
MaineMan from what I saw last night it looked like your brown Christmas would be a bust! Hope you're seeing the flakes falling!
Amazingly, the temperature managed to drop to and stay around 29 as the storm tracked further westward, brought some heavy snow bands, and gave me 5-7 inches of heavy wet snow (lots of drifting)! A little bit melted today as the storm dragged in warm air behind it (40 and sunny) but it suddenly looks great for a white Christmas. At least the storm left me with more snow than I started with…at one point snow was falling from the sky as my snowpack was DEcreasing, heh, but then it accumulated well afterwards!
Now I just hope the snow will stick and not melt like it did last winter!
