Signs that Spring is here

Unfortunately I don’t have a camera, but many signs of spring have occurred in the past week:

-95% of yard is cleared of snow now. Grass is turning green.

-Perennials such as daffodils and daisies are popping out of the ground and beginning to grow

-Ducks/geese returning to thawing waters (most waters are thawed or very close)

-Nighttime temperatures staying close to freezing or even above

-First peepers (frogs) heard last night

-First mosquito of the season (yargh, haha)

-First wasp of the season

-Buds forming on deciduous trees. Trees probably won’t be green until early May.

-Here I am thinking about what to do with my vegetable garden. ;)

I’d say winter is basically over. There’s always the chance of some sub-freezing nights, backend snow showers after a storm, and heavy frosts this time of year, but the full blown cold and snow are done. Bring on spring!

Average high is 53 degrees, average low is 33 degrees for the date.

Last night was 22 degrees, which is quite chilly for mid-April. We’ve only hit 60 or above three times so far.

With the kind of weather pattern we’re stuck in, I don’t dare start my veggie garden until early May for the frost-hardy plants and Memorial Day weekend for everything that doesn’t like frost (doesn’t mean I can’t start planning and preparing!)

It sounds like your spring starts much quicker than ours does! Our plants don’t get to this stage until lows are consistently above freezing.
