As you all know, we’re getting closer to this time of the year again, where people will be sharing their predictions for this upcoming winter, and I advise that we all start earlier than normal this year, because it looks to be a much earlier start to winter, especially in the mid atlantic region. Here in SOUTHEAST VIRGINIA, it looks to be an early start to winter for sure. This area is part of the mid-atlantic by the way. Over here, the pomagranites are turning red and different colors, which usually happens late august! Birds have not been seen as much lately. As well, the bushes are growing huge bundles of berries, which are already turning red! This doesn’t happen in our region until mid september-late october! This winter is going to be something for 3/4 of the nation, and many including I are getting feelings that this winter will be something to watch out for. All snowlovers including me will really enjoy this winter. Ant hills have been seen the size of 6 inches! Last year when we had sort of a bad winter, ant hills were only 1/4 of an inch. One weather folklore quote that they say is true is: “If ant hills are high in July, winter will be snowy”. Or my term is “If ant hills are high in july, the snow will fall high”. So, it looks to me like we’re going to have an early start to bad winter. Arkansasdolfan, said the same thing! Here’s his map/message:
I do think the ridge currently centered over Oklahoma City will continue to grow over the next month before start to shift west around the third week of August. By the start of September, I expect the axis of the ridge to be straddling the Rockies, ushering in below average temps in all but the far western periphery of the blue bubble above. This is not to say that the ridge won’t flex during September and there will be plenty of warm days left for most, but the heat should be on its last legs.
Although I do not include precip in this forecast, I do think we will see early snows north of 40N in early November and north of 35N around Thanksgiving. I see November to be major cold for most of the nation, being an early start to winter.
If you have any questions, just ask. Full disclosure, I’m not great at predicting the entire nation, but very good at predicting the Southern Plains. Decided to do the whole thing to foster discussion. Anyone who wants to talk about their predictions and thoughts, go ahead and post away on this topic. Anyone’s welcomed. Please, I’d be most happy, if anyone posted their 5 cents into this(5 cents, meaning your thoughts on what you have to say about this). Anyone who wouldn’t mind discussing this topic, please go right ahead. Thank You all for your time, just reading my topic. Adios! Sianara! Good bye!

what’s up
i think from the mississippi east bound will have a early start to winter the temps will start off abg and fall into a more cooler even colder faze not fast but quick i’ll say.. And the precip will be a snowy/icey precip as well. but more snowy as the fall gets into a deeper faze. I could be wrong but thats what i think will happen.. And Mississippi west will get into a colder faze too but not as quick as the east.. And for the fine folks of the PNW your gonna start off cold but faze into a warmer pattern.. Great lakes point east will be the jackpot for the snow and cold..
Yeah that’s for sure! I think it’s the great lakes and southeast and mid atlantic’s turn.
I think the Midwest/Great lakes early start to winter will come a week b4 Thanksgiving where cold arctic front will come in and drop some heavy snow,
definitely, or it may start before that, like into late october around halloween, like it has before, where it snowed on halloween like last in minnesota!
The spider webs I’ve seen this year, for the most part, have been fairly high off the ground. Some are even higher than they were in late 2009! Plus, with the heat wave moving out in August, northwest flow should bring in more precipitation and foggy weather with the warmer soil and lake.
On a side note, I found think like about why global warming has been so much slower than predicted:

Interesting…
im a bagger at my local grocery store where i live, And I notice that the corn husks were pretty thick. that is another weather folk lore.
I think winter starts later than normal in the East this year, mainly because I expect tropical activity affecting the eastern US to peak late in the season, dragging ridges of southern air into the eastern US and suppressing fronts from the north. There is a ton of energy in the Atlantic ocean tropics this year, and so far it is barely cooking, but it will have to go somewhere later on, and signs do not point to early activity in the US. The pattern of weak storms forming and then fizzing out to sea is likely to continue into fall. While the eastern US may see some breaks of cool weather in late August, early September, and possibly early October, I think that conditions are milder overall through late December. At this point, I expect temperatures to return much closer to “normal” which means cold and snow for most, of course, however overall a milder and less eventful winter than last year. However, I don’t think it will be a BAD winter… it’s just hard to top last year!
Those are my current thoughts. I’m not discouraged and I’m actually looking forward to it.
I think for the mid-atlantic and southeast, the winter will be bad. It should start early, with berries already forming in late july! Two months early. What is gonna happen with mother nature this winter, because I think we should all prepare for an awesome snowy winter down south and east bound. This winter will be bad.
What about the york, pa (southern pa) area?
Wow Fatima! You have me really excited. My gut feeling told me to log on and see if other folks are noticing suddle changes. I’ll keep my eyes open. I live in both King William and Richmond. Looking forward to a snowy winter! My favorite season of all is on the way, and I’m getting excited. Planning a day trip or perhaps a weekend trip driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Any ideas on a reasonable, yet cozy place to stay between Roanoke and North Carolina?
Cool! I live in Virginia Beach. I think we’ll both be seeing a bad winter.
Wow it must be a slow start for us here in North Jeresy. No spider webs much at all. Or maybe to early for us, which I think. I hoping to see some changes by mid August.
I had a feeling that new jersey had a chance of a late fall, because those hiints you gave me before, but I think you still have a ways to go. Just wait one more week, and you’ll start seeing signs turn up. Next tuesday let us know what’s going on. You’ll see dramatic changes, watch.
doesnt look like there was an early start of winter this year
