I know this is a long ways off but whats everyones thoughts on the next winter of 2012-13?I hear its gonna be a much colder winter that its been in years.Any thoughts?

  1. Grandin says:

With lake michigan being 80 + degrees i bet this winter in the southern lake michigan costal towns will be hit hard with lake effect snow storms. The weather man hasn’t said nothing yet but i did hear him say in the middle of the lake the water temp was 85 degrees that’s bath water warm big time. No wonder rouge waves are more common this year. And lake michigan has been really angry this year huge waves break off the breaker walls vessels get slammed with big waves big time thunder storms create outta no where then die out suddenly when they approach land. I go in the lake alot to fish is lake michigan is rough. I wont let my kid swim in the lake no more the currents are to rough the current can drag a person  50 yards away and alot of people drown. so i make my son stay inland. of he wants to go out he can wait for me we’ll go on the boat. But yea i think winter 2012/2013 will be alot different for the midwest/upper midwest cold and snowy. these are my feelings i have no proof this will happen just going by the water temp and past winters mius the one that just passed.

all the lakes and the oceans are warming up and the soi is crashing so it might have a dangerous winter this year it will be much noisier.

  3. spellbound says:

I think we MAY have a snowy and cold one here too, at least I hope, but if nature is giving any clues I would say cold and snowy..  HOPE  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. ShawnM says:

I hope it’s cold and snowy too! We had thundersnow in December 2006 between 14-18 inches of snow in 4 or 5 hours time. We had a blizzard February 2011 with between 15-20 inches of snow. That was without lightning and thunder. I can only imagine how much more snow would have fallen had we had thunderstorms.

  5. buddy17474 says:

Me too. I was thrilled when  I got eight inches in Feburary 2010, which is a lot for me!

  6. Craven13 says:

what do u think it will be like in east tennessee

  7. sapporo1 says:

I have to say that I agree with you Grandin, with extremely warm water in the lakes, if there is any -NAO at all, then areas of the midwest that are near the lakes will likely be inundated with heavier than normal snows, that is just a natural physical effect of cold air moving over very warm water, and it really doesn’t make much difference what anomaly is in play, so long as the wind is moving in a favorable direction to push moisture towards those snow belt locales.
Not looking too good for the remainder of the midwest though, as most storms will either dive deep into the south and emerge into the gulf, pick up moisture and move up the east coast, or hammer the rockies and high plains and then fizzle out before making it to the midwest, of course, not all storms will do these two things, as I believe that the midwest will get hammered with at least a few good storms with all that gulf moisture hovering around out there, but I think maybe this year will be all about the rockies/southern plains and northest/mid atlantic/southeast, just a guess though

  8. fatima32 says:

yes those areas are included sapporo1

  9. lchoate says:

Anyone know any predictions for Ohio for the 2012-2013 winter? I live in northwest ohio and am hoping for LOTS of snow!!!

  10. Ohio 5-O says:

As of right now Ichoate, it looks like lots of snow for both of us. I’m in northeast Ohio and you’ll probably get what we get.

  11. lchoate says:

Thank you Ohio 5-0! That’s what I’m hoping for!! :) ) I love the snow!! It brings out the kid in this grandma!

  12. Anthonypilone01 says:
