unless you live in the dakotas minn mich wisc ohio or the interior northeast then your chances of a cold and snowy winter dont look so good according to farmers almanac.mid atlantic looks to have above average temps along with most of the southeast but wet conditions.sorry
kmk aka kottonmouth kings? And i hear it will be cold in most places and snows will be heavy in the nothern united states. And southern coastal Lake Michigan.. And upper England states..
I’ve seen their Winter map for this year. It says the coastal SE will be mild and wet NOT the Mid-Atlantic. It says Above Normal temps and Stormy. And well, it’s Winter so it will still get cold. If we’re in a wet pattern on top of that then you can bet that we’ll see accumulating snows at some point during the Winter.
Also keep in mind the FA and OFA had a really crappy run of luck with their Winter Forecast from the Winters of 05/06-08/09. Their forecast failed those years. So they’re not always going to be right.
My personal thoughts about the map is that it resembles perfectly atypical Nina climo. And if we see a west-based NAO block this Winter with a cooperative Pacific, their forecast isn’t going to do well.
That’s my same theory fatherfrost. If it will be many cold snaps and we have so much wet weather this will many times convert to snow a lot this winter coming up.
hmm, I have to say, I don’t agree with the forecast for the Rockies/ Front Range either, I doubt it will go from being insanely wet to suddenly being drier than average, on top of that, plants are going crazy right now with berries everywhere and with the bulk of trees already about to turn, and even several that are near or already peaking, way more flowers than usual, lots of periods of weak cold fronts bringing low clouds, snow starting to fall already across the high peaks…nevermind that dry stuff, I say we will be at least at, if not above average for precipitation, based on our patterns lately and also colder than average based on what nature is telling us here.
By the way, we had another round of monster thunderstorms the other day, we had a nasty 100 acre fire threaten our home 3 days ago, Ironically, the day after it sparked, a large cluster of thunderstorms formed right over us and dumped 3 inches of rain on us, and even 4 inches in some places
I agree with the above comment. I disagree with the FA’s outlook for my area. Above average temps and stormy/wet? What?!?!?!? lol Just extend that blue curve south some more, and then I’d believe the outlook. =\ Or maybe my Summer SAD is kicking in and demanding a cold winter.. hard to say.
I agree with FatherFrost plus with maple trees starting to show signs of color change and seeing solid black warms lots of lizzards coming inside I think we will be seeing a La Nina
Thank you! I was getting a bit worried. I can do with the slightly above normal temperatures; but no snow? But then again; we can’t have snow witout cooler temps.
Fatima, Do you still think we will have a bad winter being cold and snowy? Was just wondering cause I have heard different opinions lately. I live in the Eastern Panhandle ( Martinsburg) of West Virginia. Thanks!
Like to know that also.
It’s in stores now…. you can always type in “winter of clime and punishment” and the google link will take you to a scanning of the book. =)
