Southeastern Ohio

I barely muddle through the summer, just waiting for the falling leaves, gusty winds, dark skies and time change to tell me that winter will soon be arriving. I’ve been reading through the predictions, but, I am hopeful that someone might have an idea for my area of the world, which is southeastern Ohio, Athens area. I have my fingers crossed so tightly I can barely strike the keys to send out this plea to the universe….and of course the Farmer’s Almanac wizards as to what I might expect in the aspect of snow this winter. When storms are called for, I actually sit up through the night, curtains open in my office, lights brightly shining along the side of the house, just waiting for that first flake to fall. C’mon folks, give me some good news, I’m ready to lose sleep while on flake watch….bears can hibernate, I’m ready to cook homemade veggie soup and bake cookies!

Hey Gaze… I keep up with our area. I live up around Mansfield, and a few others in here live on the outskirts of Columbus and I think Wilmington. Don’t worry… we should see some frost this weekend it looks like. Maybe even a freeze in some of the lower lying areas!!! :) I think we’ll see a good winter this year!!!

Hi Plowman! Yay! You’ve made my night! I am now guaranteed to receive all the sand-man has to offer and will breathe to the rhythm of sugar plums dancing in my head! Each year I hold on to hope tightly that we’ll see large storms, the ones they talk about on the news for days – approaching the actual strike of those beautiful, thick inches! I’ve always been a fan of snow, every since a young age, so it’s in my blood. Thank you so much for monitoring this area, it’s nice to know I’m not alone in the state of “Ohiya” waiting for the white stuff. Have a great night!

Hi SnowGazer! I totally know what you mean! Have the Weather Channel on, peeking outside wrapped in a blanket. There is nothing better! I loathe the summertime… xp I am from the Central OH area, and Plowman is right… we should have a nice winter. =) I saw it’s supposed to get 38 on Saturday night *faints*. Yay! First frost coming soon? Hopefully…

Hi WinteryKate! Someone understands the method to my snow filled madness! Smile. There’s just something so homey about the time change, getting dark earlier in the evening, taking a hot shower, putting on a warm pair of jammies, and as you said, wrapping up in a blanket and just enjoying the feeling of home! I keep telling everyone it must be old age, but the heat/humidity of summer is just not one of my favorite times of the year anymore, as a kid, I didn’t even notice the heat, it was never too hot to do anything, now, I just want to barracade myself in the A/C and wait for Autumn! I hope we have so much snow this year that it comes to my eyebrows, and I’m 5′ 10″ tall! Now that would be fun! Yes, our temps are certainly going to be dropping towards the end of the week, only in the high 50′s through the day. I’m sure we’ll still have our Indian Summer, but I’m ready for the weatherman to start saying, “There’s a winter storm warning in effect for…..!” Thank you so much for writing, and I wish you a wonderful winter!

It cannot possibly be old age! lol Or at least I hope not. I haven’t even gotten to 20 yet! xD I actually have Summer Seasonal Affective Disorder, which is the reverse of Winter SAD. It’s very intersting, and of course unfortunate for me… and my fmaily xD The last few summers have been terrible, because of the heat and humidity and my family wants to do away with me until September. lol, so I’m not saying that is the case for you but it may be worth looking up.

They are saying a chance of snow on Halloween, so I’m counting on that!!

  6. snowgazer says:

Wow, WinteryKate, I’d never heard of Summer Seasonal Affective Disorder, but I will certainly check it out. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with it! Is there anything particular you can do to help get through it?

Wouldn’t snow on Halloween be wonderful?! Shoot, I’d be happy to look out my window and see snow today! Smile.

Please take good care of yourself and I’ll definitely do some reasearch….

You’ve probably not heard of Summer SAD becuase, get this, only 1% of the population has it. Nice, right? You know, I just found out this June, even though I had been suffering from it for a few years. Meditation helps in the thick of it, but there really wasn’t much besides that, hiding from the sun, and stalking the AC that helped. I did research on it for a paper, and have links if you would like to read some about it. Tempurature (and sun) seems to be the biggest trigger, and when I would sit in front of the AC, it was a relief both from the heat and my anxiety. The anxiousness and frustration, the depressed states/random crying bouts, weight gain, sleepless nights, and headaches they all were there until just a couple of weeks ago. I feel great, now. I’m happy and just myself again. =) Once the weather gets into the 70′s though I get the above. I actually posted in the Health forum to see if anyone on here might have it, and what they did! Haha! Did you hear that in WV, NY, and WA they’re supposed to get snow in the higher elavations?
