Well, you’ll likely have to move that slightly above average snowfall well to the west here in Colorado, because it’s already shaping up to be a slightly above average year here, especially on the Palmer Divide…by the way, speaking of snow, the final snowfall accumulation projection for us in this current storm is 9-13 inches with single digits for lows tonight a good probability.
lol sapporo1 your just excited about this snow in your town aren’t you? I dont mean to tip my ace but on saturday it will be 60 there so alot of the snow id not all of it will be gone. And by the time december rolls around it wont be snowin as much as you think it will be. I’d say around march going into april you will get a late BIG snowstorm. Just saying.. But for sure take pictures and post em on here i gotta see the snow.. And on another note some are saying it will snow this weekend in the northeast. I’d say nope it’s not gonna snow. But i could be wrong..
The well below temps are to east. Should raise it more north in the east were it covers the upper england states. And as for the great lakes and upper plains ohio valley is spot on.. And the same goes for the snow fall map.. You are a good weather person sonny.
One question: with the jet stream so far south, I can understand how you put Maine in below average temperatures… but above-average snowfall? Generally when the stream is that far south we get average snowfall at best due to the bigger storms staying down south instead of riding the coast. Just wondering your thoughts on this…thanks.

All I know is that Virginia has had everything from Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Tornados and such….why not a good ole blizzard to round things out huh?
It is true, that in a typical winter we have many spells of Chinook winds otherwise known as downsloping winds in December, however, December is also a moderately snowy month ( especially can be on neuteral to weak La Nina years) again, don’t forget, I did mention a few times, that Monument has an average annual snowfall of over 110 inches, that is like the average annual snowfall for Boston, New York and Philadelphia combined, plus some. the Palmer Divide, on average, gets much more snow annually than Colorado Springs (43 inches) or Denver (60 inches) so, even when it is not snowing in Denver or Colorado Springs, in between the two cities, it can be near blizzard conditions here, especially in mid-winter, the reason for this, the Palmer Divide is a ridge that crests at Bald Mountain (7800 feet) and also Monument Hill (7350 feet) and runs west to east unlike the front range which runs from north to south and also unlike Colorado Springs, which is blocked from alot of moisture by Pikes Peak and the mountains, Monument hill almost completely counters the mountain shadow effect,and a wind in any direction (North, NW, NE, SE, S)acts as an enhancing element for precipitation, especially snowfall, and because the ridge is so much higher than all surrounding areas, save the mountains themselves, that it actually sometimes creates it’s own weather.
The most productive wind direction for enhancing snowfall is North, because the air rises and cools as it moves over Monument Hill, and reaches it’s peak just on the other side (south side) where Monument and Gleneagle are located, and that is where the heaviest snow in all of Colorado east of the mountains occurs, so now you know why Monument is so snowy.
exactly snowlover. we will be seeing blizzards from what i heard about the ofa! Them and many others are actually concerned about virginia having a very bad winter coming, so we’ll see some crazy snowfall totals and what not from what i’m observing!

Thats sounds pretty darn good for the mid-atlantic as well.
I really do hope that it will come true and hope to have better luck to see more snowfall than what we had last year because the SE, NE and others had most of the fun and it was frustrating for me that other areas are getting most of the action around us but not coming here in Maryland….or at least not as much. Most snow that we had were small ones that provided from couple to only a few inches…except for that thunder snowstorm. But that was about it and haven’t seen any more snowfall after that.
So after so much rain we have been having, plus a rare October snowfall, this could be a sign of a snowy winter for us and having much better luck with more snowfall for us this year

Hope so. I have been thinking about that possibility of some snow this thanksgiving or around that time. If so, I would not expect much out of it because if I do, I would make myself feel disappointed. But I would be lucky enough to see any snowfall. But if it would a little more than that, it’d be great. But in overall, I am looking forward this winter over here in Maryland, hoping to see more snowfall for this year than last year
@ cjtsmom: you’re with me and anthony as my area which is virginia, your area which is north carolina, and anthony’s area maryland are all technically similar as far as weather and i’m between the both of you guys! all three of us will see cold and snowy conditions by mid december, or hopefully even easier, and hopefully blizzardy conditons many days this winter! Get ready because in a month or so or a little less, things should start to really change for the 3 of us!
