Acorns?

I been doing the lawn for awhile now and i notice that there absolutely no acorns on my grass and all the leaves are down already. What does this mean for this winter in live in the Mid-atlantic region

    Squirrels
Here in NC the squirrels ate them off the trees before they could fall.
We have fat squirrels around here. Must be getting ready for a very cold and snowy
    winter.
I have an out door cat and he looks like he’s gained 10lb over the last few weeks.
    Lots of fur.
As for black walnuts no idea.

Here in Greenbo Lake State Resort Park in Northeastern Kentucky, most of all the leaves are gone off the trees..We’ve had alot rain over the past few days with 1-3 more inches on the way by tuesday night..could be seeing some flooding issues..im ready for some snow though!

What part of NC do you live?
I am in the High Point Area. Most leaves are gone here.

Very few acorns this year up here. The few acorns we did get were very solid and hard.

prtyu this mens that natur dops foods like these or animals in our climatesto use for a very cold and snowy winter coming up obviously if you think about it which is awesome! the weather channel predicted a warm winter for whole southern half of usa from the wes to northeast and has virginia all the way south across this latitude under warmer winterthan normal which is stupid, as most of their forecasts are inaccurate anyway! they’ll all see out there about how accurate my frecast wil be comprd to the weather channels and other higher officials.

I remember something about mother nature taking care of her own when the need arrises. more acorns, hard winter. less acorns, easier winter. acorns as an example.

this year our leaves were coming off early… too dry! the trees were going into hybernation early from the lack of rain. no help there.

what I’ve done is look at my local university’s weather data. there’s a basic pattern. don’t remember the time spans… but last winter we were kind of over due a hard winter. we had a couple good snows for our area that raised the winter total quite well. we were low on the winter storm count. far as I’m concerned, we have not had a winter like the ones where I was a kid. If I’d bought ice skates 6 yrs ago when I moved back to central Mo. they’d still be in great shape. no so back then, we wore them out before we out grew them.

even with last winters data showing us just a bit on the colder and snowier side of things, it was NOT a record. not even close. had it not been for ONE storm dumping a big load of snow (18inches) we’d have had a medeocre winter. as a matter of fast, the last 20 years have been pretty much “middle of the road” with only one or two pushing the limits of “medium”.

all the global warning people say…. we will be having HUGE weather disasters/swings. I guess they mean the weather will be like what it was when I was a kid, the ’60′s. I remember a huge drought one summer. the summers there after were riddled with violent summer storms. those winters are likely the ones I remember as being COLD and WHITE. it looks like that on the university’s data charts too.

I like the charts, we are over due a serious winter. last winter was pretty white as far as snow total, but not in volume of rowdy winter storms. all the folklore I could find last winter said, winter would be hard. it was, sort of. this year I’ve missed out and havent dug around for the nature signs. sorry!
