Does anyone have and thoughts on what the spring and summer outlook will be for the united states? I believe it will be hot and very wet. but for the northwest and the rest of the westcoast will be cool and wet again..

Kat, Good for you and I hope they all produce an abdundance of good veggies for ya. I myself prefer organic whenever I can afford them and that’s why I am trying organic seeds this year. I am even saving our organic coffee grounds to mix in with the organic soil i have to purchase yet and then i will start the seeds indoors. I usually buy the plants so this is my first year starting by seed. So I sure hope they take off and grow well for us. So good luck to you and your veggie garden. And the price of veggies anymore is getting more people to start their own gardens. Do you have a large area for your garden. We only have a small space for ours due to living in a cottage developement. So my planning has already begun
Jayne, we’ve got 3 acres where the house sits and 6 rented acres next to us. I didn’t do much of a garden last year. I really shouldn’t even call it a garden. I’m sick of paying the store prices and I love stepping out the back door to do my “shopping”. You can’t beat fresh from the yard!
I started a few seeds last weekend. Almanac said this wasn’t a good weekend to start more…
I keep checking back in here to see the summer forecast. I realize winter was a bust, but all in all I think this winter was just weird all the way around. I’m willing to take the summer forecasts with as much faith as I did the winter one! lol. They were all much closer last winter, so… here I am.
Do you think the coffee grounds are worth it? I drive by a Starbucks every day getting to work. If I take a bucket in, they’ll fill it for me. I’m not brewing at home as much as I used to.
If dan is right and summer is hot and wet I’ll need to pay attention to the direction my furrows go!
Kat, well we brew coffee everynight so I thought what the heck I will give it a try. I remember my Mom saving her’s and putting them in her plants. So instead of throwing them out I will put them to a second use
Oh well it’s woth a try, couldn’t hurt none, lol! Wow you have alot of space for your garden. I love going outside and watching my plants grow and get so excited when I can start to pick them off and use them. Yes nothing like fresh from the garden. Good Luck I wish you well with your garden
jayne 1954 im probably think that late march is going to be above normal warmth in the great lakes so get ready.
Ifoglia, We live in West Virginia, but winter was a bust for us as well as alot of other people. Alot of my spring plants are coming up already and I don’t like that much, to soon. At this rate there will not be many flowers left to bloom for spring and summer
Our lowest temp. for this week will be 40 degrees but not for for long and back into the 50′s. Soon I will be starting my veggie garden seeds indoors and am starting to look forward to planting my garden. I give up on any freak snowstorms to come our way for the rest of this winter, so come on spring!!! Hopefully next winter will be our turn for some nice snowfalls, hopefully!
they said long range forecast in june going to be very hot month over the great lakes june will feel like july’s weather we will be using sunscreen early this year.
Will tomorrow be a sign of what spring will be like?

**Moderate Risk Issued for Tomorrow, March 2**
By Andrew at 8:20 AM
**The Storm Prediction Center has issued a moderate risk for severe weather, effective tomorrow, March 2nd.**
Discussion…
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a rare Day 2 moderate risk area for the Ohio Valley into the nation’s Midsection and South Central US.
Have tried to pinpoint exactly when the instability will be highest and shearing the strongest. After determining that timeframe, I have found the jet stream to be raging at 140 knots, which equates to 160 MPH. You may not know it, but 160 MPH for a jet stream is extremely similar to the strength that was present for the April 2011 Superoutbreak of tornadoes.
Low Level Jet stream at 700mb level will also be screaming at 70 knots, which is roughly 80 MPH. Again, this is unusually strong for a lower level jet stream, and will only increase to the worry factor for this situation. An atmospheric cap will be virtually nonexistent, meaning any storms that fire will quickly break any cap present and proceed to strengthen.
As for shearing, SFC-700mb shearing will be fairly high, with the maximum values in the 70 knot ranges. SFC-850mb values are lower, coming in at a maximum 50 knots. SFC-925mb shearing maxes out at 30 knots. These amounts seem pretty insignificant, but all this shearing could very well set the stage for an extremely active day tomorrow.
And then there’s the issue of deep layer shearing (difference between surface and 500mb winds). Check out the forecast deep layer shear (DLS) for the timeframe I am using:
This amount of deep layer shear is incredible to me- values of 100 knots+ are possible per the 6z GFS! Deep layer shear is one of a few main things needed for tornadoes, and the fact that there is this much shearing worries me.
Another worrying thing is how the Storm Prediction Center has put in the wording “Long Tracked/Significant Tornadoes Are Possible”.
Tomorrow is likely to be the crash course into the 2012 severe weather season. That said, be ready if you are in the moderate risk area. The moderate risk area is nothing to fool around with- almost every time, I have seen tornadoes come out of these moderate risk situations if they were declared for tornadoes. It looks like this moderate risk will be for tornadoes as well.
-Andrew tonight storm from the south of ohio they are dangerous outbreak
now that dangerous outbreak of tornadoes is gone but theres a warm up coming this week it will approach 60 degrees or more but the spring outlook should all come out this week theweathernetwork coming out tomorrow and maybe the famersalmanac will come out too. but theres possibility of a storm this week but we have to watch for storm after march break bc we might have major storm coming for the great lakes states so watch out keep ears open and listening more with the weather news.
if we dont get cloudy skies on monday and its very warm and humid monday southern ontario could get blast of severe weather with higher probability of storms theres chance increasingly humid that day if its cloudy then it just be stray thunderstorms ok take it easy have a nice week.
next weekend is going to be very warm talking about 70s and 80s and maybe some thunderstorms.
next week we will be baking early summer heat wave and some big time severe weather look out.
I sure hope the spring tornados aren’t a sign if things to come. We’re in Michigan and had a few touchdowns in March. Very rare for here. Still a better place to live than alot of other states. We have 4 beautiful seasons and hardly no extreme weather.
well what i heard cold weather saturday morning to summer conditions in the great lakes next wednseday and thursday with increase risk of severe weather.
Tell Joe B to go home no more videos bc he’s embarrasing everyone cold cold weather very cold tell him to have cold drinks if he sheesh this late spring we will major warm spell this june will be very hot around from midwest to the great lakes elsewhere slaboveavrge ok and this week we will have severe thunderstorm wednseday afternoon through thursdasy evening from chicago to the southern and eastern great lakes so this is going to be very interesting set -up.
