I am a complete novice at vegetable gardening. I’ve never planted anything in my life. How do I start? Is there a place I can go within the farmers almanac website or book that gives the basics on precisely how to get started?

Try the Burpee website on line…there are so many articles on there regarding gardening….or, just google it, a wealth of info will pop up! One good thing to remember is to make sure you purchase your plants/seed from a reputable company and that they do NOT sell GMO (genetically modified) plants/seeds. Burpee sells only NON-GMO products.
Try your state agricultural agency. You can generally get how to books on vegetable gardening. Good thing is they will be for your local area. Don’t be in a hurry, wait for the ground to warm up. Nothing will grow if the ground is cold. The planting dates the Almanac gives is good advise.

Lots of stores… have small containers of already-growing cold-weather vegetable plants for sale. Wal-Mart has packages of four plants for about $1.75. (Broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, brussels sprouts. etc.) Grocery stores.. all kinds of places sell these small packs. You cqn pick up a few…. and plant them in pots…. if you don’t have “ground space” ready. This way…. you can get some “success” quickly… which may encourage you to continue! It’s fun!
Don’t fret over it. I grew with grandparents as a child. Last year just went with it and planted potatoes and corn. Pumpkin plant grew well. This year my garden is 4X last year. Have fun with it and learn.
you can go to the home and garden section of the farmers almanac book and website or you could got to the home and garden part of the forum and there may be some ideas of what to plant and how
start small use the almanac s planting dates…..they work.
