Falling leaves

Ok any ideas about leaves already falling out of the trees? It is July and it looks like Oct around here….

From what I have been told, it is because of lack of water. Because we are in a drought, here in Ohio, the leaves on our trees are falling as well. I assume this is the same reason you are seeing leaves on the ground.

makes sense, but even the trees that are around my yard that get water on a reg. basis are loosing them too…I am sure water has a big role in most of them though…

  3. spellbound says:

The heat will make them fall too, everything gets stressed to all this heat…..lol

Were in a drought as well and the leaves are falling and the grass is a hay field. We got some much needed rain yesterday it poured real hard for 5 mins then stopped and the sun came out and now gonna get another heat wave this week :( but a mini one this time. Id love it if the temps were in the upper 70′s low 80′s with a inch of rain every summer! I heard the midwest and all along that eastern seaboard will be cold and snowy this year. i wont get my hopes up like i did last year though :\

Well, you folks in Ohio aren’t the only ones, our trees are getting stressed out as well, but what puzzles me, is that there are several trees out there with yellow leaves like in the fall, but the only thing that can cause them to turn that kind of yellow, is lack of chloraphyl due to changing seasons with declining sunlight, awfully interesting I think, but the again, this year there are signs around me that point towards an early winter, and possibly quite a snowy one at that.

We have red and yellow leaves here in NOVA but the weatherman said it was because it is so dry. We are down 7 inches here.

Yep, this crazy dry weather combined with heat is taking a toll all across the board. Trees, plants, crops etc. The birds have been depending on our bird bath. Was watering the flowers and filled up a small bath and right when I finished a wasp landed right on it to drink. Also watered a couple shrubs and right away a cardinal flew down and was making all kinds of noise, I thought he was going after insects, but he was flapping his wings and taking a bath. It was rather interesting to watch. Last I seen on the local new our area was in severe drought and under 9-10inches of rain to date.

Indiana has only got 0.09 inches of rain since the start of summer. 75 percent of the corn crop is gone. And Indiana was declared a drought stricken diaster. Can anyone tell me if the midwest/upper midwest will see a cool and wet fall and a cold and snowy winter. i been hearing we will but after last year i dunno. Any thoughts?

Yup. here in Maine it’s been crazy hot and incredibly muggy..the lawns are all burned and the trees are looking like they’re dying..rain has been almost nonexistant. UUGGHH

I have to say, we are a little bit lucky here in Palmer lake as of late, as we have had some drenching thunderstorms in the last few days, which has helped us recover a little from the 12 inches we have been below normal, one advantage we have over most of the country this time of year is the monsoon, we can count on that most years to bring wetter and cooler weather to our area, which is a nice break from the blazing heat that is baking areas to our east, and us not too long ago.
Sometimes being in close proximity to a mountain range, or in the mountains like we are can have it’s perks, like naturally cooler temps when you are this high up, we are at 7300 feet here.
Not always the case though, we are just as vulnerable to drought as anyone else, and just because we got quite a bit of rain, doesn’t mean that the drought we are still very much in is going to end any time soon, as it will take alot to pull us out of this horrible dryness that has plagued us for years now.

We have been humid and very little rain just brief sprinkling type rain then it’s gone and gets even hotter as things are dying around here lawns are burnt we are all oping we get some kind of rainfall soon although things aren’t looking to well on that.As i have to agree with sapporo it’s going to take alot to pull us here out of this drought.

I wonder what is brewing in the Atlantic?  Not hoping for a hurricane; but a nice tropical depression that’ll bring rain to the area would be nice :)   We started the hurrican season on a roll, now we’ve calmed down.  I’m just hoping for some rain for everyone on here.

  13. TheMaineMan says:

Dry weather over the spring and summer will lead to early discoloration and leaves dropping. In general, a rainy summer leads to a more colorful fall, while a dry summer leads to a lifeless fall foliage-wise. I’m hoping that the wet year we’ve had so far will lead to some great foliage this coming fall, although things have dried out a bit lately.
