I’d love to learn how to predict the weather in my local area of IL. I’m not a native of IL, so I really don’t know WHAT to look for. I could tell you in Florida, example: on the coast, if the weatherman said 30% chance of rain, plan on it raining between 2-3 and the humidity would go up like walking through a blanket. If a storm rolls in from inland out to sea, you can bet it will roll back and rain on you in about a couple of hours.

ok, nvm then
In IL just watch the animals, how they are acting. Example squirrels gathering nuts/leaves etc. Woolly worms, they are folklore but have an 80-some % accuracy rate. They come out towards the fall and are usually all over the roads in a variety of colors, white, black, blond, brown or a combo of. black usually mean hard/harsh winter, white can mean snowy especially combined with black ones. brown-ish/blonde a more mild winter. Amount of nuts on a tree, acorns for example. Or how high a hornets nest is off the ground. Crickets tend to start trying to find warm places to stay when cold is coming. So that can give you a heads up once you start seeing them in your house. Also persimmon seeds, cut the seed in have and on the inside u will see a knife, fork or spoon… sounds odd but its true ive done it for years. U can actually see these items on the inside. sppon=lots of snow, knife=cold cutting like a knife fork=lack of snow. This is just a few thoughts. Stick around, b/c once the new almanac comes out and fall approaches people will post more signs to look for etc.
white and black i’ve never really heard of or unless that’s brown and black which i believe is mild for second half of winter but the black know to be cold and snowy for sure
Well, the squirrels have gone bonkers for food…they are trying to take the food we leave out for the birds and we had our local raccoon attempt the same thing. The squirrels seem VERY active. I will try the persimmon thing…interesting.
Thanks for the info Smackdown!
