i dont think it will be cold col down south. but this winter i feel the southern people will have a somewhat cold winter with warm shot but not many. If you want a true cold winter move up north we get alot of snows to. Minus last year :\ god i hated last winter!
But if you want guaranteed cold and snowy winters, move to the higher elevations of the northeast or the rocky mountains, it snows 8 months out of the year here in Colorado on most years, and huge October, March and April blizzards are common here, occasionally big NDJF storms as well, and lots of origraphic snows along the continental divide provide excellent skiing and snowboarding conditions all winter long.
Yes, as the Pacific and Atlantic Oscillations align in the colder cycles once again and the effects take place, expect colder winters in the northern hemisphere in general. But as always, some will be warmer and some will be colder.
Warm is expected here in S.C. a few times during the winter months, which is nice honestly. I can still get outside and work in the yard or work on my bikes or something. I gotta make sure my Haro is ready for the snow. Lol.
What nobody never understands is when i say cold i dont mean northern or midwest cold.I just mean colder some than average.I dont expect bone chilling cold down here.
I don’t care so much about any bone-chilling cold, just slighltly below average would be great, and my big concern is that we just flat need the snows, just consistant snows that will not melt too early and will provide good moisture for next year, Colorado and much of the southwest besides the deserts, simply cannot possibly handle another year of these exceptional drought conditions, we need our reservoirs replenished, and our rivers and ground moisture, as well as the aquifers.
So, after hearing this, I am sure you are all reminded now of how bad it would be if this El Nino becomes west based, that would be catastrophic for tens of millions of people, as many may not know this, but we have nearly as many farms and ranches as the Midwest does, so perhaps The Weather Centre should not be so quick to call it a “good thing” if the El Nino keeps migratingbwest, the only small sliver of land in the US that it would be good for would be the immediate east coast, therefor he should think before he says things like that.
Here in east Ky we have had rather mild winters the last few years. In the last 48 years, we have had a few extremely cold winters, ’77 being one of them, and ’94 was another one. 1994 was the coldest I ever saw it here, the temperature reached -32 once, and several times were below zero. Until just a few years ago, we would have snow and a few temps around 5 – 10 below. We are past due. In ’94 I measured over 26 inches of snow after one storm. Otherwise, snows are sporadic and can run anywhere from 2 inches to 10. I reccollect once the ground freezing more than a foot deep, and that was in ’77.
Yes I do. I’ve read and re-read my local university’s weather data charts….our weather data seems to basicly show a 35 yr cycle, plus/minus a couple years here and there. As a matter of fact there were HUGE weather swings and extreames decades ago. Then everything started evening out… not to hot, not to cold, not to dry, not too wet. We’re just now getting back to when large weather swings are due. Welp, summer has been hotter than hell and dryer than…. sand. Last winter was so mild, read that as warm. We didn’t have doodly for snow, 2 small ones totalling about 6 inches. So…. will we get a really white and cold winter? Well this part of the country is slightly overdue… just by looking at past weather data. I have plenty of hope, for a real serious winter.
Missouri. where the weather is typically “all over the map”. We’re used to wild swings, we get rains from hurracanes/Gulf, we get snow and serious winter weather from the north, north-west… we’re just in the middle holding on for what ever comes at us. tho this year nothing but hot came at us. we did get 3 inches of rain from Issac! whohooo!!! This was our first rain since spring.
Hopefully we do. S.C. and alot of other places in the US are over due for a good winter.

I dont agree Rickster lol.I think it should be cold from dec.1-early and hardly have any if at all mild spells.Cold,cold,cold.
Meant to say early Mar.At least mid 50s for highs by early March.

how cold is colder than average for whereever you live

I dont think weve had a true long lasting winter in South Carolina since the late 70s or early 80s.
