Buzz around the net points to drought making apple trees produce smaller fruits, and bringing early 2012 harvest. Normally head down to Julian late september to see the apples hanging from trees on the street, pick some for home, and sample the pie; but this year waiting for heat to pass before the visit, makes me wonder if we might miss the harvest.

Apples were ready very early here as well (late August). Very strong season so far, with all orchards open and with tons of apples. Have already picked a bunch along with some cider and cider donuts, and loving it all. Farmers benefited from an early spring, warm summer, and normal precipitation.
