The morning of Thursday, September 20 brought a low of 35 degrees and crystal clear skies, and most significantly a thin layer of ice on my car and other exposed surfaces. First frost! Thankfully I had covered what’s left of my tomatoes and pumpkins that night, and they seem to still be alive (barely). This is about two weeks earlier than normal.
We went over 3 full months without a frost this year (June, July, August).
The cooler nights have really started to bring out a bit of color on certain trees…. green still dominates the overall canopy, but you can see tinges of red and orange here and there, especially in the sugar maples. We are about 3 weeks away from peak foliage, and foliage is expected to be great this year.
Next… keeping an eye out for first freeze. Doesn’t look like it will happen this month, so we’ll see what early October will bring.

That’s awesome! We may, and I stress may get our first frost this Monday morning. Lows could get into the mid-and upper-30s, so we’ll see. Otherwise, it’s very cool around here. About 62 outside. Perfect fall weather!
Man yall keep rubbing it in dont ya?Lol
Looks like its going to get cold again tonight TheMaineMan.
The trees are really starting to change here on the island, seems like I can tell a difference daily. I can see Cadillac Mountain from the front yard and I can really see some red and yellows mixing in with the evergreens. In a few weeks it’s going to look amazing. Might have to snap some pictures, I need to get a better camera though to really catch it.
weather.gov has posted a frost advisory for my part of MICHIGAN, as well as pretty much the whole lower peninsular and most of the surrounding states!!!!! After the hot summer i am really happy to have some nice fall like weather, hopefully to be followed with good winter weather.
I’m so jealous right now. I can’t wait for the first frost!! So I can wear these:
They may be ugly but they are warm & waterproof!
so apparently I still can’t post a picture LOL!
Yeah it was pretty cool this morning… 38 degrees here. It’s been going into the upper 30s / lower 40s most nights, which is great because the mosquitoes have really gone away. We’ve had a few fires in our back yard lately and haven’t had to deal with mosquitoes. The colors are emerging more and more each day here too.
It’s also nice not having to mow the grass every other week.
You guys are lucky. Down here in South Texas we wont see a frost until early to mid November.
@glenn
Same here in MS….last year was around Halloween though.
Alas, in Julian, CA (San Diego County) last year first frosts came in late October followed by early November snow. I dearly hope the frost and snow come earlier this year!
Cool
