Sandy on it’s way to the Mid-Atlantic…

For all the forecasters:
Have you ever seen a storm with such a unique Path?
What are your predictions for the areas that will be hit?

For everyone else:
How are you Preparing?

In short – I have my trusty cassette player/radio combo &  food + water for 7 days.  I’ve made enough preparations to sit back and be able to enjoy. I wish I had something weather related to contribute but most of my contributions are excitement for the forces of mother nature-

This is my first attempt at starting a new thread so be nice!

I am in michigan, and I am hoping to see a little bit of snow from sandy, but I think that the coast is going to get hit hard, and see a lot of flooding. I am hearing things about high amounts of snow for higher elavations. I am very interested to see what comes from the storm!      Every person that is affected by sandy weather should post pics…

Yup, getting ready for Hurricane Sandy’s impact for Maryland.
going to hit between new jersey, new York and  us in Maryland. It’s like a 1,000 miles wide. The winds are gonna get strong once the other storm combines with the Hurricane and power outages are expected and not to mention heavy rain damaging winds up to 75 mph or more and right now, everything is shut down and people in Ocean city has evacuated.. Should be a bumpy ride.

So, my best advise  for those of you who live on the east coast, I suggest you guys be prepared, stay indoors, stay dry and get a nice cup of hot chocolate. And be safe!

Well it’s Monday morning and the schools, state agencies are closed.  I had to come to work:( - The winds are not too bad now, we’re not getting a lot of rain either.  I’m in Richmond which is sorta central Virginia.  Our eastern neighbors are catching it much harder.  Snow is predicted to our western neighbors.  I have brought the can goods, and other lighting sources in case the power go off.  We’re pretty much as ready as we’re gonna be.  My prayers for everyone.  We’re expecting the worse of it tonight into tomorrow morning.

We are in CT., and have been told to prepare for up to two weeks without power.  We have enough food and water for all of us, and we have a generator, so we will be ok.  The winds are definately picking up, and I am not looking forward to how strong they will be.  But I have to remind myself that we have an almost hundred year old house, so I am sure it will be fine.
I will let you know how things are after the storm.
    Be safe all of you!

I am in Northern VA and we were lucky enough to not loose our power, but I did prepare to loose our power by stocking up on water and ice. I also filled up our bath tub so we could flush the toilets and we moved all of the furniture off of the deck. I thought for sure that we were going to have a couple trees down but somehow we lucked out. We lost our power back in the summer after the derecho for 3 days and it was nooo fun. My thoughts are with all of those that were hit really hard.

Shadowloki10 you sound like my family here in MD, we were blessed  to have not lost power like many others. We lost power in the summer and brought another generator in preparation for Sandy.

My heart and prayers go out to those hit really hard further north, they were slammed!  We are getting ready for a rough winter.

  7. Delstein says:

We got some snow this morning. I’d say about an inch accumulated before it melted off. Still, I wan’t expecting out first snow to be this early. The local meteorologists are saying we could see more snow showers overnight, with another dusting possible in the morning.

  8. snowlover says:

Delstein where are you?  I’m in Virginia, most of us here in Richmond made out just fine.  About 2 1/2″ of rain and a little wind was all we got.  I was prepared.  Extra can goods and lighting was my main worry.  I too lost power this summer, yet I can’t remember why?  My prayers also for my Northern friends.  I’m sure Grandin will have some stories when he gets back.

Power just got restored in parts of my area. I lost a bit of my roof but we’re just fine here.

I have to say we quite literally went from 67 degree weather to 40 degree weather nearly immediately after the storm passed. The temperature near me dropped significantly and it’s supposed to stay like that. The wind blew most of the leaves off the trees (that are still standing), so I’ll be missing fall foliage pictures. With the temperature drop though– I feel like we skipped fall altogether.

  10. snowlover says:

Rainsticks I’m so sorry about your power outage & roof.  I am very thankful that you & your family are okay.  Folks laugh at me when I try to give them the bit of news that I may have, but preparation is the key.  So many lives were saved because of early warnings and TWC constantly, insisting that this storm Sandy was SERIOUS!  My heart goes out to the folks in NJ & NY and anywhere else thats not seen on tv or the news.  Who would have thought that a Catagory 1 Hurricane can do so much damage?  I betcha that a lot of folks will take these storms a bit more seriously now.  Including me.

  11. amy n says:

    Hi everyone!
Amazingly enough, we did not lose power. I bought a generator, had about fifty gallons of water, and a week’s worth of food. We got very, very lucky. But my hometown did not fare as well. I am from Lavallette, NJ, which is one town north of Seaside Heights. The devastation in that area breaks my heart. All of the landmagrew that I grew up with are underwater.
