Brutal Cold Waves Could be Heading for the U.S.

Posted By: Grandin  Posted On: Jan 6th, 2013  Filed Under: Weather

This is coming from accuweather.com so take this weather story with a grain of salt. The only reason why i’m posting this weather story is because i’ve been hearing the same thing from several different people as well. And this cold could bring some hefty snowstorms as well. The link is below. Any thoughts on this? ~Dan~

This looks good! I have been hearing a little bit about this from different sources, so it sounds as tho the cold may finally come around. although to what extent the cold will be we don’t yet know, anything is better than nothing. Thanks for sharing

  2. Delstein says:

That’s good because we have highs in the upper 50s forecast for this week, and I don’t want this to be a repeat of last winter.

  3. KatD-Mo. says:

    well… I’ll believe it when I see it. ;)

  4. benjie17 says:

Lets just wait and see if that prediction is right.

  5. panaminer says:

Yea when I did some reading about tlol collapse of the polar thing, I read this very thing. We are being hit with heat waves and they are going to be the result of the collapsing of the vortex, and that’s what’s going to allow the cold to sneak in. They didn’t say how long it will last though. Maybe a week, maybe longer.

  6. panaminer says:

Ithe forcastor said it will happen January 22 or something around that time.

  7. snowboi1 says:

Yeah it would. It supposed to be in the 70s next few days which sux.We sure haven’t had any real winter here in SC this second straight year.

  8. The Rickster says:

True true. Winter isnt over yet. These “thaws” are the usual around here this time of year. There is still time to get some cold in here.

  9. Anthonypilone01 says:

Right now, it looks like we’re going to have to wait for the cold to return in the next week or two for us on the east coast right now, it this being since how mild it’s going to be. And the reasons why i am not too bothered by it, is because i am planning to use it to my advantage to go out and put away my christmas light, along with the rest of the christmas decorations when the weekend comes.

A big hello to you Dan! Thanks for posting that link. I was doing some research on this cold wave and thought I would visit here to see if anyone had posted more information on it. A link to that update was helpful. I think that this weather set up is entirely possible.

Good to see that you are still alive and kickin’.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the thoughts on this story. I had my doubts this would happen. But i think it will happen now. The month of Febuary for 2/3rd’s of the country will be down right COLD! Then in March i heard it will be above avg. temp wise and very wet into spring and summer 2013. Hot and wet will be the theme this year.. I remember standing in the old watch out tower with my family on July 4th 2012 at 9:45am and it was allready 96 degrees. Man i love heat and all but ir was bad last year. And MSSouthernGirl im still here and kicking :) .. I’m glad your doing well and it was awsome that you wrote in my gourm i been wondering how you been! And ya this story i posted looks to be legit..

That’s sad as I thought spring would be much cooler than average.

  13. The Rickster says:

I don’t know if e will be in the 2/3rds or not. These cold shots seem to be coming at the Southeast then kind of fading before reaching us. Yeah, we get cool but over all…there isn’t much to look out for. Our snow opportunity window goes all the way until March. Usually, we get our snow (if any) in January, or early February. Latest I have seen it snow around here is in March. We got a slight dusting.

  14. snowboi1 says:

Hey Rickster how long have u been living in SC?Ive been here for 41 years so weve gotten snows in March indeed.

  15. tornadoes2 says:

well i love your post but i think the spring will be very wet few of them could be on the strong side severe weather will be welcome in the great lakes to the corn belt lt it will be well above normal surronding the southwest great lakes and se michigan, from 2012 drought to replace bad storms for the great lakes and mid south snow opportunities will be welcome in the great lakes third week of janurary first week of feb but then after that we will have a thaw eastern part of the country.

  16. snowlover says:

The local Mets were calling for 70s here last weekend; and it didn’t get out of the low 50s.  Folks were planning to play golf, basketball, cookouts and such.  It was so foggy, gloomy and cool all that weekend.  I was glad because once they reported that we could break records (78) last weekend.  Whew!  Now today it’s cool but not cold (42) and very rainy.  We might get 3 inches from this system.  Now why can’t that be snow?  I haven’t seen a flurry all season!!!!!!  I’m hoping that Accu is accurate :)   We sure could use some snow here.  I’ve almost forgotten what it look like. :(
