I need help with planting wildflowers!?

Posted By: WilliamHayden  Posted On: Jan 8th, 2013  Filed Under: Home & Garden

Hello Friends,

I am having a wedding in late July of 2014. I am looking to plant a large plot of colorful and beautiful wildflowers in my yard (I live in the Lehigh Valley of NorthEast PA). I am planning on picking them and using them as the centerpieces for my reception. So, can anyone help me with ideas of flowers that are colorful, bloom in late July, and will stand up beautiful in vases for a day or two?

Thanks and Regards,
William Hayden

HI ..Zinna’s are very easy to grow and are very hardy/sturdy. Also Gladiolas (sp?) are bulbs..they are easy and many florist even use them..but all in all the zinna’s you can find different heights and wide range of colors..most come in a mix of colors in a pack..the cheapest place to buy them is Dollar General..last yr you could get 4 pks for one dollar. so if you don’t like them ..you won’t have wased much money..best wishes

    Good afternoon.
Bachelor buttons (no pun intended ) hold up quite well in
    a vase.Helicrysum (straw flowers),last quite long also.Tall
varieties of marigolds, are also a good choice.I only see one
problem.I only live about 25 miles south of your area in
Hatfield.I grow an extensive array of flowers every year.In
order for you to have flowers to cut for the big day,you will need
to start your seeds indoors, about 8 weeks before planting them
out doors. And don’t forget those zinnias. They come in every color
and size.Good luck on your big day!! If you have any other
    questions regarding planting tips,etc…email me
l.cifer@verizon.net  In subject box type   FLOWERS
I don’t get the time to check all of these forums on a regular basis,
so email is your best chance at a rapid response.
