It seems like Farmers Almanac was right about sandwich weather, just look at October temperature anomalies, any thoughts?:

Its just october, but it is something to watch, I guess. In addition, the GFS is waaaay off right now. It is misplacing the left back quadrant of the upper-level feature over SW & C canada. The Shear is visible to the naked eye via sattelite imagery, but the GFS still backs the mean trough position over the PNW, which is off. Anyhow, with the QBO being Negative, a sandwiched winter is not out of the question, but I'd shift that Conus father east. Thats just me.

Have a great day

Hmm, my area where I live in South carolina is still in the Negatives. Anywhere from -2 to -4 from average. Its said that October MIGHT serve as a 'preveiw' of whats to come for the winter. Excludeing the F.A. official map, I beleive the maps that I have seen else where on the internet, includeing the ones that that I've seen on here, such as the ones that WJP made, stand strong. Many maps I've seen call for a below, to much below average tempurature situation for the South-East, and many other areas of the U.S. I suppose you could say that I am in denile just a bit. But, IF this October did open a small window as to what we could see this winter, then alright. I'm game.

I'm not saying the eintire winter will be like that, espcially since it isn't right now at all. Just that there will be periods with similar conditions, excepted farther south too. If you were to base winter off temperatures (don't), there would be more precipitation in a frozen form.

True. Down here in the South, it is very common for high temps to reach the 60s and 70s from time to time, with lows still in the 30s and whatnot. In fact, the biggest ice storm I have seen in my life happened after a day that had a high in the middle to lower 60s  That was nuts.

in 2002 one day it was 68 degrees and the day after we had a devastating icestorm, of 1-3 inches, it was in late january/early feb. In the hardest hit places it was a mess with feet of twigs and debris everywhere and our area was declared a disaster zone. It was not fun!!!

I think that was the same year we had our ice storm :o :o

I remember it because there was like...alot of people in our house. Me, three of my cousins, my mom, my gandma and grandpa...alot of people. We had a old kerosene heater keeping us warm, and a Coleman stove type thing that we used to heat up certain foods. We used the kerosene heater to heat up soups and whatnot.

It knocked out power for days. It was straight, pitch black at night. No joke. Couldn't see your hand in front of your face.

I certainly hope I never have to go through a storm like that again, it was really scary.
