Hello,
With all the news about how we need to care for our planet better, I thought it might be fun and informative to share some easy, every day ideas on ways to conserve energy, time, money, and ways to live life more naturally with less damage to our great earth.

Is there something you do that you could share? For example, I have tried to use cloth napkins more than paper in a way to cut down on my garbage. I also hang my clothes up outside to conserve energy and I telecommute so there's not that much gas being used.

What do you do?

I have a few ideas for the gardener...
Instead of planting in rows, plant in groups or raised beds No need for wood ...just mound the dirt up to create a rectangle or square shape. Planting together the leaves choke out the weeds and cover to soil to keep moisture in....less watering.
For plants trees and shrubs... to go with drought resistant plants....to cut down on watering. There's is some beautiful ones out they!
Plant native wildflowers....they adapt to the enviroment using less water.
Keep a rain bucket to catch the rain off roofs etc...for watering.
Soaker hoses are very benefical and use far less water than sprinklers or hand watering.
Just a few ideas..

Good ideas! Do you know of any drought resistant plants?

I forgot about a water/rain catcher- that's a fabulous idea. Another thing for the inside gardener, if you have kids and they play sports, many times there's a drop or a half a water bottle left of water. Don't throw it down the drain, water your plants with the leftover water!! Recycle water when you can.

Along with rain barrels, I also catch condensation from window air conditioner to use for watering.

Hi all, some usefull ways of saving not only money but our planet as well.
Dont leave water running while brushing teeth,or washing dishes.
Catch your dish rinse water in a basin for your next load of dirty dishes.
Or use it to wash out your kitchen garbage can.
If you have one>dishwashers use 1/6th of the water, and less soap than hand-washing.
Dont flush your old medication in the toilet.
Fill a gallon container with water and sit it in your toilet tank,Its makes flushing with less water possible.
Recycle,paper,plastic,glass and cans.
Dont toss any batteries into your trash.
Consider using cloth diapers on little ones.
Turn off lights when you leave a room.
Open your curtains for natural light during the day.
Save lights for nights.
Start a compost bin.Just about everything except for meat can go in it.
Next spring use the compost in your flower beds or a veggie garden.
Plant a tree in honor of a special someone.
Adopt a Spot in your neighborhood, beautify it.plant flowers.
Use recycled paper products.
Switch over to a more efficent lightbulb.
Compact fluorescent light bulbs use at least 2/3 less energy than standard incandescent bulbs to provide the same amount of light, and they last up to 10x's longer.
By washing your clothes in cold water, you can see a 50-75% saving in energy use.
Use an extra blanket and lower your heat to 60 at bedtime.
Here's to Sweet Dreams and Care Free days.Peace out.
