As that link shows, Lake Auburn's earliest ice out ever (in over 100 years of records) is March 30th. Even in 2006, it iced out March 31 (2nd earliest on record).

However, it appears that it will probably ice out this weekend with very little ice cover, temperatures soaring into the 60s and staying above freezing at night. It looks like wind will be the deciding factor in whether it ices out over the weekend or if it survives into early next week.

The lake usually ices out in mid-late April, and the latest ice out on record is May 14.

Indeed, the pond near my house looks like it is going to have a very early ice-out as well. I haven't seen it ice out in March since the 1980s, but I'll probably be open water fishing on April 1st this year.

Both bodies of water had near-record ice-ins last December due to a very warm November and December.

I'll take some pictures of it this weekend if I get a hold of a camera… along with the green grass!

Are people in other parts of the country witnessing later-than-usual ice-outs in local bodies of water?
