The Farmers Almanac Gardening by the Moon Calendar is determined by our age-old formula and applies generally to regions where the climate is favorable.

Get all 12 months of our exclusive Gardening by the Moon Calendar inside the 2008 Farmers' Almanac (available in our online store). This calendar lists favorable and not so favorable dates for various gardening and farming chores.

November 2008

1 Good for planting cabbage, celery, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, collards and other leafy vegetables in southern Florida, Texas and California. Start seedbeds.

2-3 Poor planting days.

4-5 Good days for planting peas, squash, corn, tomatoes and other above ground crops in southern Florida, Texas and California.

6-7 Kill plant pests on these barren days.

8-9 Good days for planting above ground crops. Extra good for vine crops, where climate allows.

10-11 Neither plant nor sow on these barren days.

12-13 First day fine for planting beans, peppers, cucumbers, melons and other above ground crops, where climate is suitable. Last day plant root crops, where climate permits.

14-16 Any seed planted now will tend to rot.

17-18 Best planting days for fall potatoes, turnips, onions, carrots, beets and other root crops, where climate is suitable. Also plant seedbeds and flower gardens.

19-23 Poor period for planting. Kill plant pests, clear fence rows/land.

24-26 Favorable days for planting root crops. Fine for sowing grains, hay and forage crops. Plant flowers.

27-28 Good for planting cabbage, celery, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, collards and other leafy vegetables in southern Florida, Texas and California. Start seedbeds.

29-30 Poor planting days.

December 2008

1-2 Plant sweet corn, beans, peppers and other above ground crops, where climate is suitable.

3-4 Good days for killing weeds, briars and other plant pests, poor for planting.

5-7 Plant peppers, sweet corn, tomatoes and other above ground crops in southern Florida, California and Texas. Extra good for cucumbers, peas, cantaloupes and other vine crops.

8-9 A poor time to plant.

10-11 Fine for planting beans, peppers, cucumbers, melons and other above ground crops, where climate is suitable.

12-13 Seeds planted now tend to rot in ground.

14-15 Most good days for planting beets, onions, turnips, and other root crops, where climate allows. Plant seedbeds and flower gardens.

16-21 A most barren period. Kill plant pests and do general farm work.

22-23 Good day for planting root crops, fine for sowing grains, hay and forage crops. Plant flowers.

24-25 Plant carrots, beets, onions, turnips, Irish potatoes and other root crops in the south. Lettuce, cabbage, collards and other leafy vegetables will do well. Start seed beds.

26-28 Do no planting.

29-30 Plant sweet corn, beans, peppers and other above ground crops, where climate is suitable.

31 Good days for killing weeds, briars and other plant pests, poor for planting.
