Very nice article, and I have been seeing more pay sites coming online and wonder where they are getting all their information. Trails to the Past, http://trailstothepast.org is a free site with more and more information coming online daily. Volunteers are always welcome and any information that anyone wants to share is also welcome. It is getting so you can't even get a phone number online unless you pay to get it. We pay enough to get our genealogy data and so thanks for people like Rootsweb, they help support free genealogy.

Leaving queries and questions on forums or websites that have space for that is a very good idea. I have had people contact me as much as four years later about something I have posted.
The American History & Genealogy Project is another good contributor based free site for information. Don't stick to one site all the time, search all of them each time you are looking for something.
