Recycle Those Holiday Cards!

Christmas Card Placemat
© Jennifer Carlson

Not sure if you want to part with your holiday cards? Then consider this idea: make placements with them. It’s a great way to savor the memories as well as create festive placemats that you can use next holiday season.

Materials You Need to Gather:

A stack of Holiday cards, tops only
A glue stick
A ruler (A “C-thru” ruler works great!)
Pencil
Scissors
Clear “Contac” paper (12” x 18” needed for each side)
Colored “Contac” paper, optional for the back, 12” x 18” needed).

* Remove the fronts from your used Holiday cards.
* On the back of each card, measure 1 ½” strips with your ruler. Cut the cards into strips.
* Starting in the center, arrange the strips in rows, like a picture frame. Continue adding strips around the edges, to form an approximate 12” x 18” placemat.
* Glue strips together, overlapping the strips by 1/4”. Trim the edges to keep square. Let dry.
* Finish the back of the placemat with more cards for a reversible placemat, or cover with colored “Contac” paper.
* Cover the front and back surfaces with clear “Contac” paper.

Enjoy!
