Tired of Herbs? Plant for Pets!
Set aside a four-by-four plot for your children to try out their green thumbs. Let them help pick the seeds or seedlings, dig the soil, and of course, help with the weeds.Try planting:
- Pennyroyal and garlic to prevent fleas; (given in small dosages, both are safe)
- Salad burnet and parsley to feed to guinea pigs, rabbits, canaries and hamsters
- Mint, catnip and garlic to use in baking homemade pet treats
- sunflowers for indoor and outdoor birds.
Zoo gardens are also fun and easy to create. Pick out plants with names like Lamb's Ears, Beebalm, Cardinal Flower, Hen and Chicks, Catnip, Monkeygrass, Tiger Lily, Elephant Garlic, Butterfly Weed, Birdsfoot Violet, or Coltsfoot.
Start small but invite kids to help make the plans or even pick the theme. Gardening is a fun hobby for the entire family.
