Here’s what you need:

  • 1 jars or tin can, approximately 5” in diameter
  • Fabric scissors and pinking shears if you have them
  • 5”-6” square of red felt or wool
  • 5”-6” square of white felt
  • One skein each of black, green, red, and white embroidery floss
  • A few sewing pins

Using the jar, trace one large circle of red felt and the circle of white felt.

Cut the red circle with regular fabric shears.

Cut the white circle with pinking shears, making it ¼” smaller than the red circle..

Fold both circles in half.

Lay the red circle flat. Around the edge of the red circle, stitch a row of “Chain stitch” using green floss.

Repeat with a white ‘Chain stitch” inside the green row

Stitch random “seeds” using black floss on the red circle

Place the white circle inside the red circle, matching the folds. Pin to hold in place. Stitch several stitches with red floss along the fold to keep the white circle in place.

Weave several needles into the white circle. Fold the needle case closed.

You are set to go and sew!
