Weight Loss - The Natural Way

If you’re like millions of others, your New Year’s resolution is to lose weight. With all the fad diets, diet pills, and weight loss programs that are out there vying for your attention, it can be confusing knowing where to begin. Trendy diets and diet supplements are generally an unhealthy way to lose weight, and the results rarely last. The good news is that you can lose weight, and do it in a way that is natural and healthy. The secret is permanently incorporating good nutritional and exercise habits into your daily lifestyle. Try these tips, and then watch the pounds begin to disappear!

Eat a well-balanced diet. Eating three healthy meals plus two nutritious snacks each day will keep hunger at bay and provide your body the nutrients it needs to function properly.

Take a daily multivitamin to ensure your body is receiving all the nutrients it needs for good health. The better state of health your body is in, the easier it will be to lose weight.

Drink water. Not only is water filling and calorie-free, it removes toxins and is vital to every system in your body. Drink six to eight glasses of water each day.

Exercise. Twenty to thirty minutes of moderate exercise three to five times per week will help shed pounds. Find activities you enjoy, and then have fun!

Reduce stress. When your body is under stress, it releases hormones that can lead to binging and fat accumulation.

Get adequate sleep.
Believe it or not, a lack of sleep results in hormonal imbalances that may lead to weight gain.

Avoid emotional eating.
Things such as stress, boredom, and depression can lead to eating when not hungry, as well as eating foods high in fat and sugar. Keep a food journal, noting your moods and feelings when you are tempted to stray from healthy eating habits. Seek help for ways to combat these triggers instead of turning to food.

Don’t eat while watching television or reading. You will consume more calories than you can count while your mind is distracted.

Don’t deprive yourself of treats.
This can lead to frustration and binging. The key is moderation. Buy one fresh cookie from the bakery in lieu of a whole box.

Take it slow. Losing weight in a healthy way means taking the pounds off gradually. One to two pounds per week is a healthy rate of weight loss. Losing more than this each week only results in muscle – not fat – loss. Since muscle helps burn calories, losing muscle is counterproductive to your weight loss goals.

Consult with your physician or a dietician.
Routine checkups with your doctor will rule out any medical conditions that may be contributing to weight gain. Your doctor or dietician can recommend the best weight loss plan that is tailored for you.
